Senior Quantum Engineer

Microsoft•Redmond, WA
•$119,800 - $234,700

About The Position

Microsoft Quantum is working to develop a scalable, fault-tolerant quantum computer, advancing quantum hardware, error correction, and integration with Azure. The Senior Quantum Engineer will design and test readout systems for topological qubits at the component, subsystem, and system levels. The role offers the opportunity to develop systems engineering and quantum measurement expertise while working with fast-paced, interdisciplinary teams. The engineer will design scalable readout circuitry and coordinate across teams to codesign readout systems alongside evolving qubit designs and control requirements. The position also involves documenting and presenting measurement results, developing tools and processes for quantum research, and upholding safety standards and practices. The role may assist in defining and implementing safety protocols.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Physics, Engineering, or a related field and at least 1 year of experience in industry or a research and development environment; postdoctoral research may count.
  • Alternatively, a master's degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related field and at least 4 years of experience in industry or a research and development environment.
  • Alternatively, a bachelor's degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related field and at least 6 years of experience in industry or a research and development environment.
  • Equivalent experience may be accepted.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Must provide citizenship or qualifying status documentation for assessment of eligibility to access export-controlled information; citizenship is verified with a valid passport, with other documents applicable to lawful permanent residents, refugees, and asylees.
