About The Position

This is a part-time Senior Psychiatric Technician role in the Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT) at Atrium Health Pineville. The BERT team lead will assist in identifying and rounding on high-risk patients, auditing the patient care environment for safety compliance, and mitigating risks of Workplace Violence Events. This role involves shift-by-shift tracking of high-risk patients, conducting rapid behavioral assessments, leading de-escalation efforts, and collaborating with providers on patient care decisions. The Senior Psychiatric Technician will also provide real-time support and education to teammates, lead post-event debriefs, and offer resources to teammates after Workplace Violence events.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 2 years of experience required
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) from AHA required
  • CPI Certification required within 90 days of hire date

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree or certification from the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians for teammates promoted after 2017 required

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the team lead for all BERT activations
  • Assist in identifying and rounding on high-risk patients
  • Audit the patient care environment to ensure compliance with the room safety checklist
  • Round on and audit compliance with the Blue Star designation for Risk for Harm patients
  • Mitigate risk of Workplace Violence Events
  • Perform shift by shift tracking of Risk for Harm patients, IVC patients and patients requiring an in-person safety observer
  • Conduct rapid behavioral assessments and lead de-escalation
  • Collaborate with providers on medication, restraint, and consult decisions
  • Provide real time support and education for PSA teammates as well as unit teammates to ensure patient and teammate safety
  • Lead post-event debriefs and complete documentation
  • Follow up with teammates after Workplace Violence events to provide support and offer resources
  • Observes, reports, and documents signs, symptoms or changes in patient behavior to charge nurse
  • Interacts with patients therapeutically
  • Assists, initiates, and participates in social and recreational activities, group therapy, patient teaching groups, and other group activities
  • Makes rounds on assigned patients as ordered
  • Monitors patients in seclusion/restraints and documents observations
  • Participates in unit-based process improvement activities
  • Documents observations in the clinical record
  • Complete all mandatory training as per facility policy
