About The Position

The Senior Psychiatric Technician (BERT) - Atrium Health Pineville PT Nights role serves as a team lead for all BERT activations, assisting in identifying and rounding on high-risk patients. This position involves auditing the patient care environment for compliance with room safety checklists, rounding on and auditing compliance with the Blue Star designation for Risk for Harm patients, and mitigating the risk of Workplace Violence Events. The role also includes shift-by-shift tracking of Risk for Harm patients, IVC patients, and patients requiring an in-person safety observer. The Senior Psychiatric Technician will conduct rapid behavioral assessments, lead de-escalation efforts, collaborate with providers on medication, restraint, and consult decisions, and provide real-time support and education to PSA and unit teammates to ensure patient and teammate safety. Additionally, the role involves leading post-event debriefs, completing documentation, and following up with teammates after Workplace Violence events to provide support and offer resources.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree or certification from the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians for teammates promoted after 2017 required.
  • 2 years of experience required.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) from AHA required.
  • CPI Certification required within 90 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the team lead for all BERT activations
  • Assist in identifying and rounding on high-risk patients

  • Round on and audit compliance with the Blue Star designation for Risk for Harm patients
  • Mitigate risk of Workplace Violence Events
  • Track Risk for Harm patients, IVC patients and patients requiring an in-person safety observer on a shift-by-shift basis
  • Conduct rapid behavioral assessments and lead de-escalation
  • Collaborate with providers on medication, restraint, and consult decisions
  • Provide real-time support and education for PSA teammates as well as unit teammates to ensure patient and teammate safety
  • Lead post-event debriefs and complete documentation
  • Follow up with teammates after Workplace Violence events to provide support and offer resources
  • Observes, reports, and documents signs, symptoms or changes in patient behavior to charge nurse.
  • Interacts with patients therapeutically.
  • Assists, initiates, and participates in social and recreational activities, group therapy, patient teaching groups, and other group activities.
  • Makes rounds on assigned patients as ordered.
  • Monitors patients in seclusion/restraints and documents observations.
  • Participates in unit-based process improvement activities.
  • Documents observations in the clinical record.
  • Complete all mandatory training as per facility policy.
