About The Position

Colorado Intergovernmental Risk Sharing Agency (CIRSA), based in Denver, Colorado, has an opening for a Senior Property Casualty Claims Representative. CIRSA is an insurance pool that specializes in providing property/liability and workers’ compensation coverages and services for municipalities and affiliated public entities across the state of Colorado. CIRSA is a forward-thinking employer that values a strong work/life balance. To this end, this is a flex position that allows work from home with occasional office presence. Under the supervision of the Claims Manager, this senior claims adjuster position is responsible for investigating and resolving property/liability claims and/or pursuing recovery through subrogation or restitution.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressively responsible property/liability claims handling experience
  • Knowledge of property and liability claims handling investigatory and file documentation practices, litigation management, outstanding customer service, and a desire to learn how to handle both State and Federal claims which can be unique to Colorado municipalities
  • Valid Driver’s License preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Completion of claims related course designations, such as CPCU, AIC, AEI
  • Experience in handling litigated general liability claims
  • Some property claim handling experience
  • Knowledge of the CGIA
  • Experience handling federal civil rights claims

Responsibilities

  • Investigating and researching claims to determine liability and damages
  • Verifying and interpreting coverage
  • Issuing coverage denials, reservation of rights letters, and similar correspondence
  • Recording data and documenting claim information in files
  • Responding to inquiries
  • Managing litigation and defense strategies
  • Overseeing the work of defense counsel
  • Attending conferences, meetings and trials
  • Participating in mandatory and voluntary mediations
  • Negotiating settlements
  • Reviewing correspondence and diary
  • Preparing reports
  • Processing bills and payment requests
  • Presenting information to members or organizations
  • Identifying and reporting high loss frequency, severity losses, and trends to Risk Control
  • Working with Risk Control to identify solutions to loss frequency and severity
  • Working with members to identify and contain losses in the field, advising members on emerging problems
  • Identifying fraud and working to contain fraudulent claims
  • Providing customized customer service for high demand members
  • Training members on Colorado Governmental Immunity Act (CGIA) and other claims principles affecting CIRSA public entity members
