About The Position

This position is accountable for supervising engineers and technicians in the preparation of studies and plans for highway projects. This position is also responsible for the negotiation and review of consultant prepared studies and plans. The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire Senior Project Studies Engineers. Requirements

  • Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.
  • Four years of experience in civil engineering.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Occasional district-wide travel.
  • Successful completion of a background screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supervising engineering functions or managing consultant engineers.
  • Working experience in studies and plans, and construction.
  • Knowledge of the policies and procedures that govern the design of highway projects; and ability to analyze and solve highway engineering problems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that studies and plans prepared within the Projects and Environmental Studies Unit, as well as those prepared by consulting engineers, are accurate, complete, and in compliance with policies and procedures or acceptable variations and represent the most cost-efficient designs.
  • Motivates, trains, and evaluates subordinate personnel.
  • Coordinates the activities of subordinate personnel with other sections within the bureau and consulting engineers to ensure that studies and plans are completed in time to meet prescribed schedules.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
  • Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
