About The Position

This position is responsible for the hydrologic and hydraulic analysis required for the design of large and complex drainage systems involving bridges, culverts, detention basins, pumping stations, and storm sewer systems. The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire Senior Hydraulics Engineers. Requirements

  • Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.
  • Four years of experience in civil engineering.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires occasional statewide travel which may include overnight stays.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.

  • Basic knowledge of hydraulic engineering practices.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic engineering software.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot and diagnose hydraulic engineering issues.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares hydraulic reports for major and extremely complex structures.
  • Analyzes, evaluates, and approves hydraulic reports prepared by consultants and district personnel.
  • Performs field investigations and recommends corrective action for hydraulic problems.
  • Performs hydrologic and hydraulic investigations.
  • Develops, maintains, and implements computer-aided hydraulic design systems.
  • Trains district personnel in proper hydraulic analysis and computer applications.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
  • Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
