About The Position

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for a Hydraulic Civil Engineering Specialist. The Hydraulic Civil Engineering Specialists are responsible for the development of alternatives and innovative approaches to complex hydraulic problems for multiple projects in various stages of development and ensuring that hydraulic activities are completed on schedule. This involves advanced engineering design and analysis, documentation of results, and communication and coordination with various department work units. This position is part of a career ladder with career advancement opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or a closely related field of study.
  • Proof of passage of the Fundamental Engineering Exam (FE).
  • Engineering Intern Certification (EIT), or licensed Professional Engineer (for Top Level)
  • 6 months to 2 years of related work experience (for Mid-Level)
  • 2 to 4 years related work experience (for Top Level)
  • Develops sufficient engineering knowledge, skill, and judgment to perform the routine engineering, review, testing, inspection, and documentation tasks in the assigned area.
  • Skill in the use of standard and specialized software applications, computer modeling techniques, analyzing and interpreting statistical information, and written and verbal communications.
  • Skills in effective oral and written communication to assist with client, customer, or official contracts and communication pertaining to specific assignment or meetings.
  • A resume detailing your qualifications and work history.
  • A cover letter of no more than two pages addressing your qualifications for the position.

  • Driver’s record will be verified.
  • Successful applicants will be required to sign a release form which authorizes the Department to obtain the applicant’s permanent driving records.

  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States must be provided if selected for hire.
  • MDT is not enrolled in E-Verify and is unable to hire F-1 STEM OPT visa candidates.
