About The Position

AECOM Technical Services, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineering in Middleton, WI. This role involves creating traffic microsimulation models using VISSIM to analyze existing and future conditions of highway corridors. The position requires compiling multiple input sources including traffic counts, origin-destination data, signal timing, speed data, and travel time data. Calibration of models to match field data following WisDOT validation criteria is essential. Additionally, the role involves creating deterministic traffic models using software like Highway Capacity Software (HCS) and Synchro to evaluate roadway capacity and traffic operations, analyzing future scenarios, and recommending alternatives to alleviate congestion. The engineer will also assist in intersection control evaluation (ICE) and prepare reports and technical memorandums detailing methodologies, analysis, results, and recommendations. Designing traffic signals using AutoCAD Civil 3D is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field of study
  • 2 years of experience as a Civil Engineer, Environmental Engineer, Traffic Engineer, or a related occupation
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field of study (alternative to Bachelor's + experience)
  • Experience in completing at least one project designing traffic signals including the placement of signal heads, conduits, pull boxes, and traffic detector loops and writing
  • Experience in completing at least one project preparing reports and technical memorandums to cover the methodologies, analysis and results, and recommendations of the traffic studies
  • Experience designing traffic signals using AutoCAD Civil3D
  • Experience with Highway Capacity Software (HCS) and Synchro to evaluate roadway and traffic operations
  • Knowledge of standards and regulations including WisDOT standards, Traffic Signal Design Manual (TSDM), and Traffic, Engineering, Operations Safety Manual (TEOpS)
  • Experience with Intersection control evaluation (ICE) to determine most efficient and optimized control measure

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and skills gained in pursuit of university-level degree via coursework, projects, or internships (can be gained concurrently)

Responsibilities

  • Create traffic microsimulation models using VISSIM to analyze existing and future conditions of highway corridors.
  • Compile multiple input sources including traffic counts, origin-destination data, signal timing, speed data, and travel time data for modeling.
  • Calibrate models by adjusting parameters to match collected field data following WisDOT validation criteria.
  • Create deterministic traffic models using software like Highway Capacity Software (HCS) and Synchro to evaluate roadway capacity and traffic operations.
  • Analyze future no-build scenarios using traffic software to demonstrate operations with projected future traffic and recommend alternatives to alleviate anticipated congestion.
  • Model future build alternative scenarios and compare measures of effectiveness to determine preferred alternative.
  • Assist in intersection control evaluation (ICE) to determine the most efficient and optimized control measure.
  • Prepare reports and technical memorandums to cover the methodologies, analysis and results, and recommendations of the traffic studies.
  • Compile graphics and exhibits to present analysis and results.
  • Analyze data collected from traffic surveys and traffic count reports to identify areas of improvement.
  • Compile traffic counts collected from different sources to identify peak hours and congestion patterns.
  • Design traffic signals using AutoCAD Civil 3D, including the placement of signal heads, conduits, pull boxes, traffic detector loops and wiring.
