About The Position

At AECOM, we're delivering a better world by improving commutes, keeping lights on, providing clean water, and transforming skylines. We are a trusted infrastructure consulting firm, solving complex challenges and building legacies. With accelerating infrastructure investment, our services are in high demand. We invite you to join our global team of nearly 50,000 professionals delivering projects with positive impact. We are one global team driven by our common purpose to deliver a better world. AECOM Technical Services, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineering in Middleton, WI. This role involves creating traffic microsimulation models using VISSIM to analyze highway corridors, compiling input sources like traffic counts, origin-destination data, signal timing, speed, and travel time data. The position requires calibrating models to WisDOT validation criteria (TEOpS), creating deterministic traffic models with HCS and Synchro to evaluate roadway capacity and operations, and analyzing future no-build and build scenarios to recommend alternatives. The engineer will assist in intersection control evaluation (ICE) to determine efficient control measures, prepare reports and technical memorandums, compile graphics, and analyze traffic survey data to identify improvements and congestion patterns. Additionally, the role includes designing traffic signals using AutoCAD Civil 3D, specifying placement of signal heads, conduits, pull boxes, traffic detector loops, and wiring. Telecommuting is permitted up to 2 days per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field of study.
  • 2 years of experience as a Civil Engineer, Environmental Engineer, Traffic Engineer, or a related occupation.
  • Alternatively, a Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field of study.
  • Experience in completion of at least one project designing traffic signals including the placement of signal heads, conduits, pull boxes, and traffic detector loops and writing.
  • Experience in completion of at least one project preparing reports and technical memorandums to cover the methodologies, analysis and results, and recommendations of the traffic studies.
  • Experience in designing traffic signals using AutoCAD Civil3D.
  • Experience in Highway Capacity Software (HCS) and Synchro to evaluate roadway and traffic operations.
  • Experience with standards and regulations including WisDOT standards, Traffic Signal Design Manual (TSDM), and Traffic, Engineering, Operations Safety Manual (TEOpS).
  • Experience in Intersection control evaluation (ICE) to determine most efficient and optimized control measure.

Responsibilities

  • Create traffic microsimulation models using VISSIM to analyze existing and future conditions of highway corridors.
  • Responsible for modeling requiring compiling multiple input sources that include traffic counts, origin-destination data, signal timing, speed data, and travel time data.
  • Calibrate the models including adjusting parameters to match collected field data following WisDOT validation criteria mentioned in Traffic, Engineering, Operations and Safety Manual (TEOpS).
  • Create deterministic traffic models using software like Highway Capacity Software (HCS) and Synchro to evaluate roadway capacity and traffic operations under existing conditions to identify bottlenecks and locations with operational deficiencies.
  • Analyze future no-build scenarios using traffic software to demonstrate operations with projected future traffic under the existing conditions and recommend alternatives to alleviate anticipated congestion.
  • Responsible for modeling future build alternative scenarios and comparing measures of effectiveness to determine preferred alternative.
  • Assist in intersection control evaluation (ICE) to determine the most efficient and optimized control measure, including analyzing existing intersections and looking at different measures of effectiveness such as Level of Service (LOS), queue lengths and delays.
  • Prepare reports and technical memorandums to cover the methodologies, analysis and results, and recommendations of the traffic studies.
  • Compile graphics and exhibits to present analysis and results.
  • Analyze data collected from traffic surveys and traffic count reports to identify areas of improvement.
  • Compile traffic counts collected from different sources to identify peak hours and congestion patterns.
  • Design traffic signals using AutoCAD Civil 3D, including the placement of signal heads, conduits, pull boxes, traffic detector loops and wiring.
