About The Position

The Senior Project Manager is an industry expert responsible for the delivery of large capital projects typically exceeding $25M in construction value and/or a portfolio of projects exceeding $75M in cumulative construction value. The Senior Project Manager typically manages a higher volume of projects when considering number of projects, project complexity and project portfolio value. They are fully responsible to independently manage more complex multi-disciplinary projects of a larger size and higher risk to the University. Under the supervision of the Associate Director, Capital Development, this position is responsible for the management and delivery of project management and construction coordination services to meet the technical and operational requirements of the Campus Planning, Design and Development (CPD&D) Department. The Senior Project Manager has over-arching responsibility for contract accordance, quality assurance, budget control, schedule control, code compliance, safe and non-disruptive implementation of assigned projects. They are responsible for meeting the needs of the client, multiple stakeholder groups, and the University in an expeditious and cost-effective manner, and complying with all applicable University, City and government policies, procedures, regulations and guidelines. This position prepares procurement documentation and manages subsequent Contracts for consultants, contractors and other service providers. Additionally, this position may lead internal resources including design staff, Construction Coordinators and administrative staff, on large and complex projects. The breadth and scope of this position is extensive as they are tasked with leading professional teams on mission critical projects from inception and pre-design, through the design and construction phases to substantial performance, close-out and warranty. The position also involves capital planning and design reviews for new buildings, major additions, or renovation projects by analyzing various project management options for new projects and renovations including campus infrastructure projects. Projects must blend in technically and architecturally with the other 150 plus campus buildings totalling 7.1M square feet.

Requirements

  • Technically knowledgeable with a highly acute understanding of the interrelationships between the architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical disciplines.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience managing projects greater than $25M if a licensed Architect or Engineer, or 12 years if unlicensed.
  • College diploma or university degree in an architectural or engineering program with a facilities, building-design and/or construction focus.
  • Provide expert advice on project approach and/or work scope sequencing.
  • Acts as a technical advisor and subject matter expert and is often called upon by their peers for direction and advice on how to solve complicated problems.
