About The Position

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Borough Based Jails (BBJ) Division seeks a Senior Construction Project Manager. The selected candidate will manage complex capital commitment projects; review proposed projects to determine how and when the work should be performed; work with Sponsor Agencies to ensure an understanding of project scope, and oversee project from conception, through design development, to construction completion and project close-out. Reporting to the Program Executive, other key responsibilities include but are not limited to: developing deliverable dates to determine schedules that should be adhered to; supervise, coordinate, and direct project’s construction management and construction staff; appraise the Project Executive of any issues with scheduling, cost, and construction; and liaise among the BBJ Program Management Consultant (PMC), Design-Builders, regulatory entities/agencies having jurisdiction and DDC. Other duties include maintaining comprehensive project history files, helping coordinating project schedules, addressing construction and design issues, reviewing change orders, and reviewing project correspondence and reports. In addition, the selected candidate will be responsible for utilizing the agency’s technical resources to ensure that the projects meet the Agency’s Commitment Plan objectives.

Requirements

  • At least six years of full-time satisfactory experience in construction management work on capital projects, each one of which must have had a dollar value of at least $15,000
  • At least eighteen months of which must have been in a managerial or consultative capacity in an organization responsible for the management of construction
  • A combination of education and experience, sufficient to equal a total of ten years
  • Full-time satisfactory experience in construction inspection on capital projects, each one of which must have had a dollar value of at least $15,000 (One year of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of construction inspection experience up to a maximum of four years)
  • Full-time satisfactory experience in building construction as a journeyperson in one or more of the skilled building construction trades (One year of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of journeyperson experience up to a maximum of four years)
  • Education in an accredited college leading to a bachelor's degree in architecture, landscape architecture, or air pollution control, chemical, civil including structural and bridge design, electrical, mechanical, or sanitary engineering (credited on the basis of 30 credits for one year of acceptable experience up to a maximum of four years)
  • Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York
  • Must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States (U.S.)
  • Must present original documents proving citizenship or the legal right to work in the U.S.
  • Must have proper work authorization when an employment offer is made
  • Educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited institution

Nice To Haves

  • A New York State license as a professional engineer or registered architect or a license as a professional engineer or registered architect from a state that has reciprocity with New York State may be substituted for the four years of education and experience described in 'a', 'b' and 'c' above.
