About The Position

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) is seeking a Senior Project Manager I – BHS to lead the delivery of assigned Baggage Handling System (BHS) projects within schedule and budget. This role involves managing design and construction teams, from concept to handover, and supporting capital plan development and business strategies. The incumbent will contribute to the evolution of the airport’s next-generation BHS and the overall success of Toronto Pearson.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of successful experience leading design and construction projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects from planning to implementation and close out, to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Demonstrated BHS experience at a major international airport, or equivalent complex industrial conveyance systems.
  • Strong knowledge of design and construction principles and project management, with a track record of successful delivery.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to influence others, troubleshoot, and problem-solve a variety of client, project, and technical issues while leading multiple tasks and projects.
  • Critical thinking, good judgment, and a high degree of initiative, innovation, and accountability.
  • A consistent track record of managing ambiguous, contentious, and complex issues and situations.
  • Relationship management skills with the ability to earn the trust of, and work effectively with, key partners.
  • A continuous improvement and quality-focused mindset, with a desire to incorporate new ideas and technologies to optimize program delivery and deliver value.
  • Strong facilitation and negotiation skills, with outstanding personal drive and motivation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate across all levels of management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and project management software.
  • A valid Ontario ‘G’ class driver’s license.
  • Post-secondary degree in Architecture, Engineering, Project Management, Business or a combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance at the designated level for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Project Management Certification (PMP) or Accreditation would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of the project’s lifecycle, from planning to closeout, ensuring adherence to commitments on health and safety, budget, scope, quality, timeliness, sustainability, risk, strategic impact, and project results.
  • Establish comprehensive execution plans which outline all proposed project activities, resources, interfaces, risks, schedules, estimates and reporting procedures and priorities for the safe and successful delivery of projects.
  • Lead, direct and coordinate the activities of professional and technical staff assigned on a project basis.
  • Support clients with the preparation of business cases and funding approval documents through consultations, recommendations, scope alternatives and related cost and schedule estimates.
  • Establish requirements for consultant and/or contractor selection, ensuring contracts contain complete scopes of work including all the anticipated services required.
  • Develop, monitor and maintain current and accurate financial forecasts and establish accruals for value of work.
  • Proactively identify and track project risks, develop mitigation plans, minimize exposure of the organization to risks and non-compliance to policies and regulations.
  • Implement processes to assess justified requests, make recommendations, secure client approvals, and issue amendments.
  • Actively participate in construction site meetings, providing input on interpretation of contract, plans and specifications while ensuring that consultants or contractors fulfill their responsibilities.
  • Assess project related requests and resolve them in practical and contractually acceptable terms, respecting approved scope, time, quality and financial considerations.
  • Ensure adequate inspection and supervision of all work in progress and take corrective/preventative actions as necessary, ensuring that any deficiencies identified are rectified in a safe and timely manner.
  • Commit to and deliver on the people manager promise to support and further the business’ vision through building and developing diverse, multi-skilled teams through positive relationships with internal clients, external partners and key suppliers in the construction and architecture/engineering industry.
  • Ensure contractors and project teams are adhering to project specific safety plans and performing obligations in accordance with industry best practice.
  • Maintain currency of progress and trends in building and airport design, aerodrome standards, materials, equipment, construction, and project management.
