Position Summary The Mechanical Trainer will be responsible for delivering high‑quality technical training on Individual Carrier Systems (ICS), TubTrax components, and Raw Baggage Handling Systems (RAW) to maintenance teams, supervisors, and system operators across North America. This role is essential in elevating service quality, improving system reliability, and standardizing best practices throughout the organization. Moreover, the trainer has deep hands‑on mechanical experience with baggage handling systems (BHS), proven instructional capability, and a passion for enabling others to succeed. This individual will serve as a subject‑matter expert and key contributor within the Service Excellence department. Preferred locations: Based near a major ICS operating airports (New York City, Orlando, Los Angeles).

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience working with airport baggage handling systems, including both ICS and RAW systems.
  • Proven instructional or training experience, preferably in a technical or industrial setting.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose, repair, and explain mechanical failures and system behavior.
  • Experience reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, schematics, and Original Equipment Manufacturer manuals.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 75% across US and Canada.
  • Ability to pass 10-year background checks to the extent required by TSA and airport authorities is required.
  • Must be able to attain and sustain an Airport ID Badge/ CBP Seal.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Vanderlande ICS (TubTrax) systems, including maintenance zones, divert/merge modules, carrier systems, and safety devices.
  • Experience with OEM equipment such as belt curves, junctions, live roller units, lifts, RAW components, and specialty modules.
  • Knowledge of PLC‑based interaction, controls awareness, or HMI‑assisted troubleshooting (not required but beneficial).
  • Prior experience developing structured curricula or conducting competency assessments.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to train both novice and experienced technicians.
  • Strong customer service mindset and high level of professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deliver technical training for mechanical systems within ICS and RAW environments.
  • Conduct in‑person and hands‑on training at customer sites, training centers, and operational airports.
  • Provide training on system operation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, safety protocols, and component functions.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the training curriculum based on system updates, field performance data, and learner feedback.
  • Support creation of digital learning assets, job aids, and technical reference materials.
  • Serve as a subject‑matter expert on ICS TubTrax system mechanics (carriers/tubs, divert units, merge points, lifts, conveyors, etc.).
  • Deliver practical instruction on RAW conveyor systems, belt systems, junctions, and mechanical subassemblies.
  • Demonstrate advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic practices aligned with OEM manuals and safety standards.
  • Translate system behavior and mechanical conditions into understandable teaching moments for diverse learners.
  • Collaborate with the Service Excellence team to identify training needs, skill gaps, and performance improvement opportunities.
  • Perform on-site evaluations of technician skillsets and recommend targeted development plans.
  • Support rollouts of new equipment, mechanical upgrades, and procedural standards through tailored training programs.
  • Liaise with site managers, supervisors, and customer stakeholders to ensure alignment between training output and operational needs.
  • Model and enforce all mechanical safety procedures including LOTO, lifting/rigging safety, confined space awareness, and component handling best practices.
  • Ensure technical training aligns with OSHA, airport authority, and company regulatory requirements.
  • Reinforce adherence to OEM guidelines, quality standards, and maintenance documentation practices.
