About The Position

The Senior Project Engineer will lead and deliver engineering work for large-scale infrastructure and security-oriented projects in Los Alamos, New Mexico. This is a 100% onsite role focused on design management and construction support for physical security installations and infrastructure deployments. The engineer serves as the primary technical liaison among project management, multidisciplinary design teams, physical security engineers, and construction management, and is accountable for the engineering lifecycle of assigned scope from project definition and design development through construction, commissioning, turnover, and closeout. The role integrates civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, network, security, and facility-system interfaces. It also provides job-site technical and commercial support, including document control, submittals, cost engineering, schedule tracking, field issue resolution, quality inspections, risk management, and records completion. The position includes mentoring junior engineers. U.S. citizenship and a DOE Q clearance, or ability to obtain one, are required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of project engineering experience focused on commercial infrastructure, civil works, or high-security and government-adjacent facilities.
  • Hands-on, proficient experience with ProjectSight or equivalent project management software, Delta for cost and financial tracking, Aproove or equivalent proofing and design review software, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Exceptional attention to detail regarding physical layout compliance, strict document control, and clear communication under tight project deadlines.
  • Proven ability to make sound technical decisions, coordinate diverse stakeholders, manage technical risk, and communicate clear, timely engineering direction.
  • U.S. citizenship and DOE Q clearance or ability to obtain one.
  • Willingness and capability to work 100% onsite at designated project locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience leading work through design, field execution, turnover, and closeout in a high-consequence, security-sensitive, or nuclear facility environment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate security and infrastructure design interfaces, aligning MEP, structural, network architectures, and specialized physical and electronic security subsystems.
  • Integrate multidisciplinary design work across civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, network, security, and facility system interfaces.
  • Use Aproove for collaborative online proofing and review of security layouts, structures, communications, site work, construction drawings, and schematics.
  • Conduct constructability reviews addressing high-security requirements, physical barriers, access control layouts, and critical utility pathing.
  • Lead combined Project Engineer and Field Engineer functions as the accountable engineering point of contact for assigned scope.
  • Coordinate engineering with designers of record, construction subcontractors, facility operations, safety, security, quality, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage engineering changes and technical resolutions, including Field Change Requests, Design Revision Notices, Requests for Information, nonconformance dispositions, design clarifications, and field change evaluations.
  • Manage technical document control, submittals, and RFIs from the job site using ProjectSight.
  • Perform cost engineering and progress tracking in Delta, evaluate subcontractor change orders, manage cost projections, and maintain commercial compliance.
  • Resolve complex field conflicts while ensuring infrastructure changes preserve security design intent.
  • Track critical scheduling milestones using Microsoft Office tools and optimize sequencing for high-security component handoffs and site testing.
  • Conduct routine field inspections to verify installations meet structural specifications and security classifications.
  • Evaluate design outputs and construction activities for code compliance, quality requirements, configuration management, safety interfaces, security impacts, and applicable engineering procedures.
  • Identify technical, schedule, construction, and interface risks; develop resolution paths and elevate matters requiring management decisions.
  • Support commissioning, turnover, closeout, and records completion for compliant transition of completed work to the customer.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers in infrastructure delivery and security compliance.
