About The Position

The Project Engineer will lead and support studies that advance opportunities through the Growth and Innovation Group's project pipeline. Reporting to the Study Director, this role coordinates and manages technical workstreams for mining, processing, infrastructure, and capital project studies from scoping through pre-feasibility and feasibility stages, preparing projects for execution. The role coordinates multidisciplinary engineering activities, manages technical consultants, and ensures study deliverables meet company standards for schedule, budget, and quality. It collaborates with Exploration, Technical Services, Operations, Projects, Environment, Permitting, and Finance teams to develop studies and support investment decisions. The Project Engineer evaluates technical alternatives, project risks, execution strategies, and capital and operating cost assumptions. The role also contributes to study reports, technical presentations, economic evaluations, and business cases used to advance projects through the company's investment pipeline.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Minimum of 8 years of engineering and project development experience in mining, minerals processing, or heavy industrial projects.
Experience supporting studies through Initial Assessment, Concept, Pre-feasibility, and Feasibility stages.
Demonstrated understanding of project management principles and stage-gate project development processes.
Working knowledge of exploration, mine planning, mineral processing, infrastructure development, and project execution strategies.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and technical writing abilities.
Demonstrated commitment to safe and sustainable work practices.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
Ability to work effectively across multiple disciplines, cultures, and geographic regions.

Responsibilities

Lead concurrent cross-functional studies from Initial Assessment through the start of the Feasibility Study stage, following SSR’s investment standards.
Develop scopes and manage specialist consultant engagements to ensure timely, on-budget, quality delivery.
Source and manage internal and external cross-functional technical resources for Initial Assessment, Concept, and Pre-feasibility Studies.
Document and present the results of Initial Assessment, Concept, and Pre-feasibility Studies.
Work with site teams to develop site- and project-specific economic filters for exploration targets.
Analyze site business plans and support strategic business planning.
Develop and maintain study schedules, work plans, budgets, and resource plans.
Monitor study progress and identify risks, constraints, and opportunities.
Review technical deliverables for quality, completeness, and consistency with study objectives.
Assist in preparing project execution strategies and development plans.
Support development of CAPEX and OPEX estimates and related assumptions.
Lead technical trade-off studies and option evaluations.
Contribute to technical reports, investment memoranda, and executive presentations.
Coordinate with Environmental, Permitting, and Community Relations teams regarding project requirements.
Promote safe, sustainable, and responsible project development practices.
Work independently on complex assignments requiring sound engineering judgment.
Interact regularly with internal and external stakeholders to achieve study objectives.
Provide guidance to the technical team and mentorship to junior staff.
Support budget development and cost tracking for assigned studies.
