About The Position

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Senior Project Engineer contributes technical expertise to developing new products and supports Weatherford’s Surface Pumping Unit products. The role serves as a key point of contact for Product Development and Product Line Groups, Customer Services, Manufacturing, and manufacturing support teams. Success is measured by leading assigned engineering projects and accurately translating product specifications into effective designs and drawings that meet manufacturing time and quality requirements. The engineer leads product development from initial studies and concept development through calculations, detailed design, finite element analysis, prototype construction, and testing. The role also supports existing Surface Pumping Unit product lines through field issue resolution, manufacturing support, sustaining projects, failure analysis, and other engineering activities.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of engineering design and product development experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of API 11 standards as they relate to pumping units.
  • Expertise in the design and documentation of Surface Pumping Units.
  • At least 6 years of experience with PTC Creo modeling and drawings.
  • Experience in bearing selection, gear design, and structural design.
  • Experience in reverse engineering, AutoCAD, Ansys, and MathCAD.
  • Subject matter expertise in fabrication, welding, and machining processes.
  • At least 8 years of experience with Artificial Lift Systems, especially sucker rod lift systems.
  • At least 10 years of experience with oilfield equipment design.
  • Experience in field operations providing failure analysis, technical support, or field trials.
  • Proficiency using the PTC Windchill/PDM system.
  • Familiarity with API and EN machinery directives and the Canadian Electric Code.

Nice To Haves

  • Multi-lingual.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of new Surface Pumping Unit products and technology, from initial studies and concepts through calculations, detailed design, finite element analysis, prototype build, and testing.
  • Design Surface Pumping Unit components and sub-assemblies to comply with relevant industry standards and specifications, including OSHA, ISO, AS, and API.
  • Develop and evaluate engineering concepts, conduct feasibility studies, and select suitable concepts for approval and progression to preliminary design.
  • Participate in concept design reviews, identify design trade-offs, and recommend optimization of existing products.
  • Conduct computer-based finite element analyses of pumping unit components, identify areas of high stress concentration, and validate designs.
  • Develop design solutions to prevent premature failures; conduct laboratory tests, gather baseline data, analyze results, and interpret useful information.
  • Provide technical support for Surface Pumping Unit product lines, including solutions to field issues, manufacturing support, sustaining projects, and related engineering activities.
  • Perform root cause analysis of field failures and use performance tracking systems to investigate and disposition Non-Conformance Reports.
  • Work with manufacturing and production departments, field representatives, and engineering representatives to develop robust, transparent, and cost-effective designs.
  • Recommend template and manufacturing modifications based on lean engineering concepts.
