About The Position

SCS Engineers is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer or Project Manager to support and help lead its growing solid waste engineering practice in South Florida. This position offers the opportunity to manage technically challenging projects involving landfill design, landfill gas systems, solid waste infrastructure, composting facilities, permitting, construction, and operational support for municipal and private-sector clients. Depending on experience, the selected professional may serve as a technical project engineer, project manager, client manager, and Engineer of Record. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced solid waste engineer who wants to combine technical design, project leadership, client interaction, staff development, and business growth within a nationally recognized environmental consulting firm. The position may be based from SCS Engineers’ West Palm Beach or Coconut Creek office under a hybrid work arrangement.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
At least eight years of relevant engineering or environmental consulting experience.
Demonstrated experience within the solid waste industry.
Experience with one or more of the following: Landfill design and permitting, Landfill gas collection and control systems, Landfill infrastructure, Air-quality or emissions compliance, Leachate-management systems, Landfill closure or post-closure care, Construction quality assurance, Solid waste facility operations.
Active Florida Professional Engineer license, preferably in Civil Engineering, or the ability to obtain Florida reciprocity within six months.
Ability to prepare and review technical calculations, drawings, reports, specifications, and permit applications.
Strong written, verbal, organizational, and client-communication skills.
Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and commonly used environmental consulting software.
Valid driver’s license and driving record in good standing.
Ability and willingness to perform fieldwork in varied terrain and weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

Consulting experience serving municipal and private-sector solid waste clients.
Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering projects, budgets, schedules, and staff.
Established relationships within the South Florida solid waste or environmental market.
Knowledge of Florida solid waste permitting and regulatory requirements.
Experience serving as Engineer of Record.
Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Experience preparing proposals and participating in client development.
Familiarity with landfill gas, renewable natural gas, methane-emissions reduction, composting, or other climate-related infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Prepare and review engineering calculations, design drawings, technical specifications, reports, construction documents, and permit applications.
Support or lead projects involving: Municipal solid waste landfills, Landfill expansions and cell development, Landfill closure and post-closure systems, Landfill gas collection and control systems, Landfill gas migration monitoring, Leachate collection and management systems, Stormwater and drainage infrastructure, Landfill roads, utilities, and supporting civil infrastructure, Transfer stations and material recovery facilities, Composting and organics-management facilities, Renewable natural gas and beneficial-use projects, Solid waste planning and operational improvements.
Apply advanced civil, environmental, and geotechnical engineering principles to complex solid waste assignments.
Evaluate technical alternatives and develop practical, cost-effective solutions for clients.
Coordinate design activities across civil, environmental, geotechnical, survey, construction, and regulatory disciplines.
Provide technical guidance on project-specific engineering challenges.
Manage projects from initial scope development through design, permitting, bidding, construction, and closeout.
Develop project scopes, schedules, staffing plans, budgets, and deliverables.
Monitor project performance and help ensure assignments are completed on time and within budget.
Communicate directly with clients regarding project status, technical recommendations, schedules, costs, and regulatory requirements.
Represent SCS Engineers during client meetings, public meetings, regulatory discussions, conferences, and industry events.
Serve as Engineer of Record when appropriate based on project needs and professional qualifications.
Maintain strong working relationships with public-sector and private-sector clients throughout South Florida.
Prepare and coordinate environmental and solid waste permit applications.
Support permitting activities involving applicable local, state, and federal agencies.
Respond to agency comments and help clients navigate technical and regulatory requirements.
Maintain awareness of evolving solid waste, landfill gas, air-quality, environmental, and facility-design regulations.
Assist clients with compliance strategies involving landfill operations, emissions, monitoring, and environmental reporting.
Provide construction-phase engineering and operational support.
Perform field inspections, data collection, site assessments, surveys, and construction observations.
Support construction quality assurance activities, including landfill liner and cover system installation.
Review contractor submittmits, requests for information, change orders, and construction documentation.
Conduct fieldwork in varied terrain and South Florida weather conditions.
Travel to project sites as required.
Coordinate the work of engineers, designers, technicians, scientists, and field personnel.
Mentor and support the professional development of junior staff.
Assist with workload planning, project staffing, technical reviews, and quality-control processes.
Prepare proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates, and client presentations.
Identify new project opportunities within existing and prospective client relationships.
Attend professional conferences, association meetings, trade shows, and client-development events.
Help expand SCS Engineers’ solid waste presence throughout the South Florida market.
