As we continue to grow across the Midwest, we are seeking a highly skilled and detail-driven Senior Project Accountant to take ownership of complex project financials across our manufacturing and construction-support operations. This role is critical to ensuring accurate job costing, contract compliance, billing accuracy, and financial control throughout the lifecycle of large-scale precast and prestressed concrete projects. The ideal candidate is analytical, highly organized, and experienced in construction/manufacturing accounting with the ability to manage multiple high-value projects in a fast-paced environment. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5-8 years progressive experience in construction accounting, project accounting, or manufacturing cost accounting preferred
  • Strong understanding of job costing WIP accounting, revenue recognition, and contract accounting
  • Demonstrated experience managing accounts receivable and collections in a construction or project-based environment strongly preferred
  • Experience in precast, concrete manufacturing, construction, or heavy industrial project environments strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel advanced preferred)
  • Experience with Sage 300 CRE or similar ERP construction accounting systems preferred
  • Familiarity with document management systems (Ironclad, DocuSign, Laserfiche, or similar) a plus
  • Strong understanding of AIA and AGC construction contract documents
  • Working knowledge of mechanic’s lien laws and construction credit/collections practices
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills
  • High attention to detail with ability to manage multiple high-value projects simultaneously
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills with a professional, collaborative approach
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a team environment

  • Experience with Sage 300 CRE or similar ERP construction accounting systems preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end financial management of complex precast/prestressed concrete project contracts from award through closeout
  • Oversee and improve contract review procedures to ensure accuracy, risk mitigation, and efficiency
  • Ensure full contract compliance including required documentation such as certified payroll, insurance certificates, lien waivers, bonds, and closeout packages
  • Partner with project management, production, and logistics teams to ensure accurate project setup, costing, and financial tracking
  • Apply customer payments accurately and reconcile project accounts receivable activity
  • Own the accounts receivable lifecycle including proactive collections efforts on outstanding invoices, retainage, and disputed billings
  • Monitor aging reports and drive timely collections through consistent follow-up with customers, projects managers, and internal stakeholders
  • Investigate and resolve payment delays, short pays, and disputes by coordinating with customers and internal teams
  • Maintain detailed collection notes, communication logs, and escalation tracking to support cash flow visibility and risk management
  • Manage and administer lien rights processes in compliance with state construction and mechanic’s lien laws
  • Initiate and support lien filings, preliminary notices, and other legal collection remedies when necessary to secure payment
  • Lead accurate and timely project billing (progress, milestone, and retainage billing where applicable)
  • Proactively identify, analyze, and resolve billing discrepancies and contract variances
  • Develop, maintain, and execute change order financial tracking from initiation through approval and billing
  • Oversee customer contract pre-qualification documentation and financial compliance requirements
  • Lead project closeout accounting, ensuring all costs, billings, retainage, and documentation are fully reconciled and completed
  • Support project setup including subcontracts, purchase orders, change orders, job cost coding, and documentation management
  • Maintain organized and audit ready electronic project files in document management systems
  • Maintain and monitor accurate job cost reporting across manufacturing, fabrication, transportation, and installation phases
  • Analyze project margins, cost variances, and production impacts on profitability
  • Partner with operations and estimating teams to improve cost tracking accuracy and forecasting
  • Assist in WIP (Work-in-Progress) reporting and revenue recognition for long-term construction/manufacturing contracts
  • Support monthly and quarterly financial close processes related to project accounting
  • Manage multi-state sales and use tax reporting and filings related to construction and manufacturing activity
  • Ensure compliance with applicable tax jurisdictions for materials, fabrication, and installation projects
  • Maintain documentation supporting tax exemption certificates and audit readiness
  • Recommend and implement improvements to project accounting systems, workflows, and reporting processes
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for construction/manufacturing accounting practices within the organization
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through approved training continuing education
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Controller or Accounting/Finance leadership team
