About The Position

The Conventional Production Engineering team is seeking a highly motivated Senior Production Engineer to join our Calgary-based team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Conventional Production Engineering, you will play a critical role in maximizing the value of Cenovus' conventional assets by providing technical leadership, optimizing production performance, and supporting safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This is an exciting opportunity to influence business performance through asset strategy development, operational excellence, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across the organization.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing with APEGA.
  • Minimum of 8 years of production and operations engineering experience within the upstream oil and gas industry.
  • Strong knowledge of facility design and the application of industry codes and standards, including ASME B31.3, CSA Z662, and related regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to authenticate mechanical engineering deliverables.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting, analytical, and decision-making skills with the ability to solve complex operational challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Promote safety and Process Safety as a core value in all engineering, design, and operational activities, including participation in Process Safety Event responses.
  • Manage key aspects of the assigned area's P&L, including production performance, operating costs, and operations capital to maximize asset value.
  • Provide production, process, and design engineering support for wells and facilities, including troubleshooting, optimization, hydraulic pipeline modeling, compressor evaluations, and artificial lift design.
  • Lead well intervention and production optimization programs, including cost estimating, program development, and execution support.
  • Serve as the primary engineering stakeholder in the Management of Change (MOC) process, completing technical scoping, project design, economic analysis, and project execution.
  • Manage project financial performance by preparing justifications, initiating AFE approvals, monitoring expenditures, maintaining accruals, and communicating budget variances.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate standards, regulatory requirements, and industry codes, including ASME, CSA, API, licensing, pipeline, facility, and GHG monitoring requirements.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Finance, Joint Venture partners, Commercial teams, and the Integrated Operations Center (IOC) to optimize production, support resource development plans, and mentor less experienced engineers.
