About The Position

Liquid Instruments is hiring a Senior Product Marketing Engineer to lead the company’s expansion into quantum sensing, metrology, timing, networking, and laser-oriented quantum research. The role serves as the company’s technical authority on quantum, defining priority market segments and applications, guiding how Moku competes, and translating researchers’ needs into input for Product Management and R&D. Moku is a reconfigurable, FPGA-based test and measurement platform that combines instruments such as lock-in amplifiers, PID and laser lock controllers, phasemeters, and waveform generators in a software-defined unit. The position develops evidence-based market strategy, competitive insights, quantum messaging, technical proof, and go-to-market plans. It produces technical content such as application notes, white papers, case studies, and benchmarks; enables Sales, application engineers, and channel partners; supports strategic customer opportunities; and works directly with research teams through lab measurements, demonstrations, technical sessions, presentations, and industry events. The role collaborates closely with Content, Field Marketing, Design, Product Management, R&D, and Sales. Travel is expected to be approximately 10–20%. San Diego is preferred, and U.S. remote work is considered.

Requirements

  • PhD in Physics, AMO, Quantum Optics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field strongly preferred; an MS with equivalent hands-on research experience is considered.
  • At least 8 years of combined research and commercial experience, including time in product marketing, product management, applications engineering, application science, or another customer-facing technical role.
  • Direct hands-on experience in at least one of the following: atom interferometry, optical or atomic clocks, NV-center or Rydberg sensing, frequency combs, laser frequency stabilization, quantum networking, or precision timing and frequency transfer.
  • Fluency with lock-in amplifiers, PID and laser lock controllers, phasemeters, spectrum analyzers, arbitrary waveform generators, and FPGA-based control.
  • Experience supporting market sizing and competitive analysis.
  • Understanding of competitors in the market, including Zurich Instruments, Toptica, Vescent, Stanford Research Systems, and in-house FPGA solutions.
  • Track record of bringing a technical product into a research market, from strategy through execution.
  • Ability to lead work across teams without formal authority.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and fast-moving work.
  • Willingness to travel for industry events and customer engagements, approximately 10–20%.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Physics, AMO, Quantum Optics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.

Responsibilities

  • Define priority quantum market segments and applications across sensing, metrology, timing, networking, and laser-oriented quantum research.
  • Support Product Management in sizing opportunities and recommend where the company should invest based on evidence.
  • Map purchasing processes and needs across national labs, university groups, defense research teams, and venture-backed quantum startups.
  • Track competitors’ products, pricing, positioning, and roadmaps with Product Management, and translate findings into deal-level guidance and messaging.
  • Own quantum vertical and product-level messaging, validate it with working researchers, and support consistent use by Marketing and Sales.
  • Write application notes, white papers, case studies, and benchmark data that establish the company’s credibility with quantum researchers.
  • Own technical go-to-market for new quantum products, including positioning, sales enablement, and launch content.
  • Build training content, competitive battlecards, and demonstrations for Sales, application engineers, and channel partners.
  • Support strategic sales opportunities and help teams lead credible technical conversations with quantum research groups.
  • Bring organized customer and market evidence to Product Management and R&D to influence instrument capabilities, performance specifications, and software features.
  • Work with quantum research teams in their labs to run measurements, give demonstrations, and lead technical sessions.
  • Represent Liquid Instruments at relevant events and publish and present technical work.
