About The Position

Microsoft’s Excel Product Group is building an intelligence layer that combines Excel with advances in AI to help customers work with data, make decisions, and accomplish tasks more effectively. The group develops Excel’s core experiences across Windows and Mac, including the grid, calculation engine, and collaborative capabilities, while preserving the flexibility, performance, and compatibility customers rely on.

The Senior Product Manager, Excel Copilot will shape how Excel uses foundation models and agentic AI to improve Copilot as a tool for working with data. As part of the Models and Signals team, this role will drive continuous improvement based on customer signals and model enhancements. The position works across customers, product, engineering, applied science, and design to understand customer needs and translate them into product and technical decisions.

The role owns product thinking from customer- and data-grounded perspective through strategy, hypotheses, tradeoffs, delivery, measurement, and decisions about next steps. It includes advancing near-term improvements while contributing to Excel’s longer-term product strategy and vision. Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience in product management, including driving products from strategy through delivery and using qualitative and quantitative data to inform product decisions, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

• Experience building AI-powered products, agentic experiences, or products incorporating foundation models.
• Experience working closely with engineering and applied science teams on technically complex products.
• Experience with experimentation, evaluation, telemetry, or other systems for measuring and improving AI or product quality.
• Experience delivering products at scale for a broad and diverse customer base.

Responsibilities

• Identify customer needs and product opportunities through customer engagement, telemetry, experimentation, research, competitive insights, and other relevant data.
• Evaluate AI capabilities, including foundation models and agentic systems, and translate relevant capabilities into product experiences that address customer needs.
• Partner with Engineering, Applied Science, Design, and other cross-functional teams to define product requirements, hypotheses, success criteria, and measurable outcomes.
• Use experimentation, evaluations, telemetry, and customer feedback to measure product performance, identify improvement opportunities, and inform product decisions.
• Drive near-term product improvements while contributing to longer-term product strategy and vision for Excel.
• Assess product and technical tradeoffs in ambiguous or rapidly evolving areas and set priorities based on customer needs, data, technical considerations, and business objectives.
• Define and monitor product metrics and use data and customer insights to inform prioritization and product investments.
• Communicate product priorities, decisions, and recommendations clearly across cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Collaborate across disciplines and contribute learnings, product practices, and insights that support the broader team.
