About The Position

Clio is seeking a Senior Product Manager to lead product for AI Search. This role is crucial for transforming Clio's search capabilities from keyword-based to a hybrid lexical and semantic search across documents, emails, and records. The ideal candidate will focus on improving search quality and understanding user intent, rather than specific retrieval techniques. This position is available to candidates in Canada (excluding Quebec) and the US, with an expectation of being in the office twice a week for those located near our hubs (Burnaby, Calgary, or Toronto).

Requirements

  • Product management experience, preferably in search, information retrieval, or AI products.
  • A proven track record of shipping search or retrieval products that demonstrably improved relevance.
  • Ability to lead and motivate engineering and ML teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong technical understanding of lexical, semantic, and hybrid retrieval, embeddings, and ranking.
  • Excellent communication skills to bridge customer needs and technical capabilities.
  • Good judgment in prioritizing search problems.
  • Experience with both 0-1 product development and scaling existing products.

Nice To Haves

  • Legal tech experience is a plus.
  • A good sense for what truly helps people find things versus what only looks good in a demo.

Responsibilities

  • Set the product vision for search, identifying user needs and areas where keyword search falls short.
  • Develop a roadmap with clear timelines and evaluation metrics to demonstrate improvements in search functionality.
  • Lead planning and execution with engineering and ML teams, focusing on frequent iteration and shipping.
  • Define and own search quality metrics, collaborating with engineering and ML on relevance, ranking, and query understanding.
  • Integrate documents, emails, and records from various Clio products (DMS, Manage, Grow, Unified Comms, AI teams) into a unified search experience, ensuring correct permissions and customer opt-outs are respected.
  • Make product decisions regarding the search experience, including result presentation, filters, metadata, and the integration of name and content search.
  • Balance relevance, latency, and cost at scale for the search platform.
  • Ensure search functionality enhances the integration of Clio's product suite.
  • Stay informed about advancements in AI retrieval and legal tech to anticipate customer expectations.
