Senior Product Development Engineer - Lenoir City, TN

Hubbell Incorporated•Lenoir City, TN

About The Position

The Senior Product Development Engineer leads and executes the technical design and development of new products and processes. The role develops product concepts and innovative solutions, creates engineering CAD designs, evaluates and selects materials and manufacturing processes, develops tooling specifications, and validates product performance through prototyping, FEA analysis, and simulations. It combines product development, mechanical design, CAD, manufacturing processes, polymer and composite materials, and tooling with creative engineering problem-solving and hands-on technical execution. The engineer designs and evaluates product concepts against performance, manufacturability, cost, and reliability requirements; develops CAD models and drawings; assesses production and performance risks; and defines testing parameters. The role also selects materials and manufacturing methods, collaborates with manufacturing teams and tooling suppliers, leads prototype development and testing, and supports the transition of validated designs into full-scale production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • 7 or more years of applicable engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and/or Autodesk Inventor CAD.
  • Demonstrated success and passion for developing innovative engineered solutions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with polymer materials and processes or similar manufacturing technologies.
  • Experience with structural analysis, finite element analysis (FEA), and mechanical testing.
  • Knowledge of tooling and mold design, including collaboration with external tooling suppliers.
  • Demonstrated cross-functional communication and project management experience.
  • Experience developing products for utility, infrastructure, electrical, or industrial applications.
  • Experience optimizing product designs for material cost, manufacturing efficiency, and long-term reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop innovative engineering product solutions that meet performance and technical requirements.
  • Generate and evaluate design concepts based on product performance, manufacturability, cost, and reliability.
  • Create CAD drawings and models using Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks.
  • Use FEA analysis and rapid prototyping to evaluate concepts.
  • Identify production and performance risks in new product designs and develop appropriate testing parameters.
  • Evaluate and select materials based on mechanical properties, durability, performance requirements, and cost.
  • Determine manufacturing processes suited to product design and material characteristics.
  • Assess manufacturing methods including thermoplastics, SMC, injection molding, composites, and polymer concrete.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to evaluate production capabilities, tooling requirements, and process limitations.
  • Develop tooling concepts and define technical requirements for molds, fixtures, and production tooling.
  • Partner with internal manufacturing teams and external suppliers on tooling design, development, and qualification.
  • Lead prototype development and evaluate functionality, performance, and manufacturability.
  • Perform FEA and simulation analysis to assess structural integrity, mechanical performance, and manufacturing feasibility.
  • Define and execute proof-of-concept, proof-of-function, and design verification testing.
  • Support the transition of validated product designs into full-scale production.
