Senior Product Designer - Growth

Render
•$195,000 - $268,000

About The Position

Render is hiring a craft-focused individual contributor to design the connected journey from a developer’s first interaction with Render through onboarding, activation, billing, and becoming a paying customer. The role spans multiple product areas, including product, billing, payments, and pricing, and focuses on making these experiences coherent, clear, and trustworthy. The designer will work across a wide surface area, shipping and improving designs quickly, validating work with users, and using experiments and data to learn what improves activation, conversion, and retention. This includes designing complex, high-stakes billing and payment experiences where correctness, clarity, and edge-case handling are essential. The role is part of a collaborative design team with weekly critiques and close partnership across product, engineering, data, marketing, and finance.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience, including experience designing for developers or other technical users.
  • Exceptional design taste and craft, with the ability to maintain a high bar while shipping quickly.
  • Experience with both user validation methods, such as testing and interviews, and experimentation, including designing and interpreting experiments.
  • Ability to design complex, high-stakes flows and account for edge cases such as failed charges, mid-cycle plan changes, and confusing invoices.
  • Strong information architecture skills, including the ability to clarify complex plans, usage, and states.
  • Ability to design a coherent user journey from first touch through activation to payment, demonstrated in a portfolio.
  • Understanding of how developers think and work, including services and deploys, and the ability to design for technical users’ mental models.
  • Strong product judgment, problem framing, and prioritization under fast launch velocity.
  • Clear, direct communication and collaborative work with product, engineering, data, and finance partners, including sharing a problem space with another designer.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing billing, payments, subscriptions, checkout, or pricing surfaces where correctness and clarity are high-stakes.
  • Measurable growth outcomes in activation, conversion, or retention.
  • Comfort using experimentation tools and reading data independently.
  • Design-engineering literacy, including comfort with code, motion, or prototyping, and curiosity about AI-assisted design.
  • Understanding of usage-based or resource-metered billing for developer tools, including compute plans, CPU and memory instance types, usage metering, and how pricing maps to infrastructure.
  • Writing, talks, or side projects that demonstrate design craft and point of view.

Responsibilities

  • Design a coherent customer journey from first touch through onboarding, activation, upgrades, and billing.
  • Own the design craft for billing, payments, and pricing surfaces, including plans, usage, invoices, upgrade and downgrade flows, payment methods, dunning, and the pricing page.
  • Design first-run and activation experiences that help developers reach a successful deploy and build a habit of using Render.
  • Validate designs through user testing, interviews, and quick research, and run experiments to learn what affects activation, conversion, and retention.
  • Prioritize across a broad range of work and ship improvements in small, confident increments.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, data, marketing, and finance stakeholders, communicating clearly and representing user needs in business discussions.
  • Contribute concepts and perspectives to the design-led discovery track and participate in weekly critiques.

Benefits

  • 4 weeks of paid vacation.
  • 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave for all parents, with a supportive return plan.
