About The Position

The Senior Principal Scientist will support research and development of next-generation electromagnetic navigation technologies and other strategic programs at Medtronic Neuroscience and Medtronic CST. The role applies electromagnetic theory, physics-based modeling, sensing technologies, signal processing, and system-level design to improve the accuracy, reliability, and performance of navigation solutions for clinical applications. It works closely with cross-functional engineering teams from concept development through prototype validation and transfer into product development. The position combines analytical modeling, software development, hardware integration, and hands-on experimentation to evaluate concepts, develop prototypes, and deliver solutions for product development. It may be based in Lafayette, Colorado, or Fort Worth, Texas, and follows a flexible onsite schedule of four days onsite and one day remote each week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 10 or more years of engineering experience, master's degree with 8 or more years of engineering experience, or Ph.D. with 6 or more years of engineering experience.
  • Experience applying electromagnetic theory, system modeling, and signal analysis to complex engineering problems.
  • For baccalaureate degrees earned outside the United States, a degree satisfying the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with software tools for modeling, simulation, data analysis, or algorithm development.
  • Experience developing and testing hardware prototypes and integrated systems.
  • Experience with magnetic field generation, coil design, sensor technologies, signal processing electronics, and control systems.
  • Experience with analog and digital circuit design, printed circuit board (PCB) development, and embedded firmware.
  • Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, C/C++, ANSYS, or COMSOL for modeling, simulation, and data analysis.
  • Experience generating intellectual property through patents, invention disclosures, or novel technical innovations.
  • Experience in medical device development or other regulated industries, including project planning, estimation, and requirements management.
  • Advanced technical degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize electromagnetic navigation technologies using physics-based modeling, simulation, and experimental methods.
