Senior Principal Robotics Hardware Architect

Analog Devices•Boston, MA
•$184,030 - $266,485•Onsite

About The Position

Analog Devices is hiring a senior robotics expert for its Robotics Focus Applications team in Wilmington, Massachusetts. The role supports global expansion in mounted robots, mobile robots, and humanoids, collaborating with teams in Robotics Focus Applications, Robotics System Solutions, and Edge AI, as well as ADI technology groups. ADI focuses on enabling technologies within robotic systems rather than developing complete robots. This role centers on hardware architecture and technical thought leadership, including the way components, integrated circuits, sensors, and electronic subsystems affect the performance, reliability, and manufacturability of robotic arms, mobile bases, and dexterous hands. The successful candidate will have personally architected, designed, built, debugged, and matured sophisticated robotic hardware. This is a non-management role emphasizing technical expertise, collaboration, and influence. The position is based in Wilmington, MA, includes approximately 10% travel, primarily within the USA, and is a first-shift/day-shift role. The expected wage range is $184,030 to $266,485. It qualifies for a discretionary performance-based bonus and includes medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k), paid vacation, holidays, sick time, and other benefits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering and 10 or more years of experience in an industrial or commercial robotics domain.
  • Demonstrated experience taking sophisticated robotic subsystems from architecture through working hardware.
  • Deep familiarity with humanoid, mobile, and collaborative robot architectures and subsystem electronics.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor-based system design, including analog and mixed-signal signal chains, data converters, embedded processors, power electronics, or custom silicon.
  • Hands-on experience with schematic design, printed circuit boards, board bring-up, laboratory instrumentation, debugging, and design verification.
  • Working knowledge of motors, encoders, motor-control electronics, position feedback, and real-time control.
  • Experience integrating tactile, force, torque, position, current, vision, or other sensing into a closed-loop robotic system.
  • Ability to work across electrical, mechanical, firmware, controls, artificial-intelligence, and systems disciplines.
  • Strong communication skills, including technical presentation and collateral generation.
  • Excellence in influencing without direct authority in a non-management role.
  • Proven success in matrix organizations where outcomes depend on collaboration.
  • Ability to guide technical decisions through influence rather than direct control.
  • Track record of building consensus across diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills bridging technical and business audiences.
  • Existing domain expertise and hands-on experience in robotics development and deployment are required; experience with a robot OEM is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Robotics development and deployment experience with a robot OEM.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the RFAS and RSS teams to match customer problem statements to ADI technology solutions and provide technical guidance and influence.
  • Collaborate with ADI technology groups, including vision, precision, sensing, motion, and connectivity, to understand and position ADI technology differentiation for robotics systems.
  • Support the creation and optimization of system architectures for robotics solutions.
  • Expand ADI domain knowledge in humanoid, mobile, and outdoor robots and related trends.
  • Translate system-level requirements—including control latency, thermal and wiring constraints, grip slip detection, and joint responsiveness—into subsystem and silicon requirements.
  • Help drive next-generation product roadmaps for relevant products, including connectivity, power, vision, digital, and motor control.
  • Support local sales teams and FAEs in deep technical discussions with robotics customers in the USA.
