About The Position

The Turbine Flowpath Senior Principal Engineer is a senior technical leader and subject matter expert, responsible for setting strategic direction, shaping organizational technical vision, and driving innovation across multiple projects and domains. This role is responsible for driving engineering excellence, supporting highly complex projects, and mentoring next generation engineers. The Senior Principal Engineer collaborates across the multi-disciplinary Engineering team to own & lead risk management while fostering innovative solutions to meet business and customer solutions.

Requirements

  • This role requires major experience in Engineering/Technology & Services Engineering.
  • Knowledge level is comparable to a Master’s degree from an accredited university or college
  • Demonstrated expertise in subject matter area.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
  • At least 10 additional years of experience in an engineering capacity
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams and deliver results.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clear communications and solid leadership on challenging technical issues
  • Experience interfacing with customers, conferences, user groups
  • Customer-focused with clear, concise written and oral communications at the appropriate level
  • Experience and demonstrated success working in a complex cross-functional global environment

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end design, analysis, and implementation of engineering solutions for high complexity projects
  • Own critical projects for the success of Turbine Flowpath Components (including blades, nozzles, shrouds, seals, pins, NFPS)
  • Act as a technical resource and subject matter expert within Turbine Flowpath design and hardware space, providing guidance to project teams and stakeholders
  • Lead with Technical rigor to develop safe, high-quality products while being routinely Engaged during design process
  • Review and approve engineering documentation and deliverables to ensure compliance with internal and external standards
  • Provide single point authoritative technical decision making in Turbine Flowpath Design throughout the business including supplier and field support
  • Identify innovation opportunities of relevant technologies, regulations, competitors and industry trends while presenting at conferences and being a key interface with academia
  • Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art in Turbine Flowpath Design, Manufacturing, and Fleet support in order to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for introduction
  • Provide input on strategic investments to improve quality, compliance and performance of products
  • Collaborate directly with Turbine Chief Engineer to review designs and provide strategic direction
  • Lead or participate in Hot Gas Path Patent Evaluation Board
  • Drive problem resolution across multiple disciplines and identifying risks & mitigations to the macro system level
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, internal teams and external entities to resolve the highest complexity technical issues and ensure successful project execution
  • Identify and implement process opportunities for improvement by leveraging Lean and Artificial Intelligence to improve safety, quality, deliver and cost of products
  • Identify technical learning and development opportunities within Turbine Flowpath and recommend training sessions to address any gaps.
  • Leverage data and AI/ML tools to accelerate design space exploration, automate analysis, and improve defect detection and root-cause resolution.
  • Develop breadth by interfacing directly across the Engineering organization to drive system level product knowledge and cross functional solutions
  • Mentor and coach Principal & next generation engineers to facilitate knowledge sharing across teams
  • Lead the development of technical standards, best practices, design practices and process improvements
  • Exercise Curiosit y by striving for improved products & processes to support external customers and internal teams
  • Be a Helpfu l resource to all levels of the global engineering team and encourage communication across the Engineering organization
