About The Position

The Turbine Rotating Principal Engineer serves as a recognized subject matter expert and provides advanced technical leadership to the Engineering team. This role is responsible for driving engineering excellence, supporting mid-level complexity projects, and mentoring next generation engineers. The Principal Engineer collaborates cross-functionally to drive risk management while fostering innovative solutions to meet business and customer solutions.

Requirements

  • This role requires major experience in Engineering/Technology & Services Engineering.
  • Knowledge level is comparable to a Master’s degree from an accredited university or college
  • Demonstrated expertise in subject matter area.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
  • At least 8 additional years of experience in an engineering capacity
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams and deliver results.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clear communications and solid leadership on challenging technical issues
  • Experience interfacing with customers, conferences, user groups
  • Customer-focused with clear, concise written and oral communications at the appropriate level
  • Experience and demonstrated success working in a complex cross-functional global environment

Responsibilities

  • The Principal Engineer holds significant technical authority within their domain, setting standards and making decisions that influence project outcomes
  • Lead end-to-end design, analysis, and implementation of engineering solutions for moderate-to-high complexity projects
  • Own crucial projects for the success of turbine rotating components
  • Act as a technical resource and subject matter expert within the rotating turbine components, providing global guidance to project teams and stakeholders
  • Drive Technical rigor to develop safe, high-quality products while being actively Engaged during design process
  • Review and approve engineering documentation and deliverables to ensure compliance with internal and external standards
  • Serve as a single point authoritative technical contact in rotating turbine components throughout the business including suppliers, sub-suppliers and field support
  • Drive innovation & stay current with relevant technologies, regulations, and industry trends by attending conferences and interfacing with academia
  • Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art in turbine rotating components in order to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for introduction
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to resolve technical issues and ensure successful project execution
  • Drive problem resolution across disciplines, identifying risks & mitigations to the system level
  • Identify and implement process improvements thru Lean and Artificial Intelligence to improve safety, quality and cost of products
  • Assist identifying skill gaps within the rotating turbine components and recommend training sessions to address these gaps.
  • Develop breadth by interfacing directly with adjacent functional teams to drive system level understanding and solutions
  • Mentor and coach next generation engineers; facilitate knowledge sharing across teams
  • Lead the development of technical standards, best practices, design practices and process improvements
  • Exercise Curiosity by striving for improved products & processes to support customers
  • Be a Helpful resource to all levels of the global engineering team and encourage dialogue between all groups
  • Own and shape rotating turbine team culture and identity, establishing values, norms, and ways of working that promote inclusion, psychological safety, accountability, and high performance
