Senior Principal Engineer, Solutions Architecture
About The Position
Dell is seeking a Solution Architect to join its Customer Solution Center (CSC) team in Austin, Texas, as part of Global PreSales. The CSC helps customers gain confidence that proposed solutions and architectures will meet their IT requirements and service-level objectives. In this role, you will work with server, storage, and networking technologies to help customers evaluate solutions for high-performance computing (HPC) requirements. You will interact with Dell specialists and customers across industries including academia, life sciences, manufacturing, and finance. The Solutions Architect delivers proofs of concept, technical briefings, and architectural design sessions to customers and partners. The role serves as a subject-matter expert in data center infrastructure, with a focus on servers, HPC, and hyper-converged solutions. You will collaborate with sales and product teams to provide feedback and suggestions, assess competitive strengths and weaknesses, and support lab inventory planning for upcoming product releases. You will also contribute to CSC communications by documenting solutions and success stories through channels such as blogs and social media. The role calls for deep HPC system and architecture expertise, benchmarking and performance-tuning experience, and proficiency with parallel programming and profiling tools. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and 10 or more years of experience in a relevant role.
- Comprehensive understanding of heterogeneous HPC architectures, including modern CPUs and GPUs, InfiniBand high-speed fabrics, memory hierarchies, and parallel file systems such as BeeGFS and Pixstor.
- Ability to tune BIOS, operating-system, and system-level parameters for maximum throughput.
- Extensive experience with synthetic benchmarks such as HPL, HPCG, and Stream, and with real-world scientific and technical workloads, including optimizing application compilation and runtime parameters.
- Advanced knowledge of parallel programming models including MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, and ROCm.
- Hands-on expertise with performance analysis, profiling, and tracing tools such as NVIDIA Nsight, Intel VTune, and Score-P to identify compute, memory, and I/O bottlenecks.
- Strong experience with Red Hat Linux, Ubuntu, and SUSE Linux.
- Strong knowledge of AMD high-performance computing.
- Knowledge of storage concepts including VSAN, NAS, SCSI, RAID, storage groups, and volumes.
- Exceptional technical, verbal communication, and presentation skills.

- Good scripting abilities.
- Hands-on and architecture experience with various hardware and software platforms, including Windows and VMware.
- Experience with high-speed network components and InfiniBand switching.
- Experience with clustering software such as Bright Cluster Manager and job schedulers such as Slurm and PBSPro.
- Experience with parallel file systems such as Lustre and BeeGFS.
- Experience with NFS storage systems such as PowerScale.
- Experience with container management platforms such as Kubernetes, Docker, and Singularity.
