About The Position

As a Principal Engineer/Solutions Architect on the Services Integration team in Round Rock, Texas, you will own the complete and detailed design of rack-based compute, cloud, and storage solutions throughout each project’s requirements discovery, concept and design, and physical build phases. Designs must account for potentially competing requirements from customers, integration partners, hardware and logistics teams, while following industry standards and Dell best practices.

The role develops rack layouts, validates physical fit and safety for transport and handling, coordinates hardware orders with project stakeholders, and maintains detailed configuration and build documentation.

Requirements

• Knowledge of design for manufacturing and serviceability for rack servers.
• Ability to visualize and implement conceptual layouts to avoid potential conflicts and ensure maximum serviceability.
• Strong understanding of fundamental electrical principles related to power management in a data center environment.
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of server hardware, networking equipment, PDUs, and UPSs.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed rack-layout designs based on customer requirements, data center or colocation constraints, transport and delivery limitations, serviceability, and aesthetics.
• Perform physical-fit analyses and/or CAD modeling to identify potential interferences and prevent collisions during physical builds.
• Calculate center of mass and tip angles to support safe transport and handling during delivery.
• Collaborate with project managers, sales teams, and customers to ensure hardware orders align with the intended and expected functions of the design.
• Develop and maintain rack configuration documentation, including build documents, hardware and cable bills of materials, weight calculations, and phase and load balancing.
