Senior Principal AI Performance Architect
About The Position
Dell's Client Product Group (CPG) is seeking a Senior Principal AI System Performance Architect to join the Thermal, Power, Performance, and Acoustics (TPPA) team in Austin, Texas. The role drives system-level performance decisions across Dell's client PC portfolio, balancing performance, power efficiency, thermals, acoustics, and user experience in collaboration with silicon, operating system, and ODM partners. The position focuses on forward-looking performance: forecasting platform targets, competitive shifts, and workload bottlenecks before product definition is finalized, and working with marketing and product teams on target-setting and positioning. The role contributes to Dell's engineering mission to deliver differentiated products, experiences, and solutions. Dell also supports continued learning through tools and courses that build functional, technical, and leadership skills.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of system-level trade-offs across performance, power, thermals, acoustics, and user experience.
- Experience triaging performance bottlenecks across hardware, firmware, operating system, and application layers.
- Proven ability to forecast performance trends from silicon, operating system, and ecosystem roadmaps.
- Ability to make data-based trade-off decisions and explain them to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong communication skills and a customer-first mindset, with experience influencing cross-functional and senior stakeholders.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering or a related field, with 10+ years of experience in system performance engineering.
- Experience implementing machine-learning-based performance policies.
- Hands-on experience with control frameworks, operating system scheduling, and ETW/WPA trace analysis.
- Experience with competitive benchmarking across PC platforms.
Responsibilities
- Forecast performance targets and competitive positioning for the line of business before product definition, and set line-of-business-specific hardware targets.
- Lead forward-looking discussions with silicon, operating system, ISV, and ODM partners.
- Collaborate with architecture, thermal, firmware, operating system, and software teams from preconcept through production.
- Use and validate AI-augmented workflows for benchmarking, analysis, and performance tooling.
- Analyze system bottlenecks across performance, power efficiency, thermals, acoustics, and battery life.
