About The Position

CesiumAstro is seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to develop power electronics for satellites, spacecraft, and aerospace systems in a hands-on, cross-functional startup environment. The role covers full-stack development, from concept development through detailed design, analysis, board layout, testing, and delivery. The engineer will contribute directly to the business by developing high-reliability products for space and airborne applications, applying technical rigor while working with startup agility. The successful candidate will present engineering design review materials to customers and the executive team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • At least 5 years of industry or university research experience in board-level power electronics design, analysis, and test.
  • Experience owning power electronics or power subsystem design, including power architecture and requirements definition, trade studies, power converter and analog electronics design, component selection, and detailed design.
  • Experience performing or guiding complex PCB layout for analog and power electronics.
  • Experience with analysis and simulation tools such as SPICE, LTspice, SIMetrix/SIMPLIS, PLECS, Simulink, MATLAB, or MathCAD.
  • Strong laboratory testing and troubleshooting experience with prototyping, design verification testing, and qualification of analog and power electronics hardware.
  • Direct experience designing high-reliability electronics for automotive, space, or defense applications, including part derating, worst-case analysis, and thermal constraints.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must meet U.S. Government Space Technology Export Regulations eligibility requirements: be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, conditional resident, asylee or refugee (protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)), or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience delivering subcircuit or board designs to production and deployment.
  • Proficiency with PCB design tools such as Altium, OrCAD/Allegro, PADS/Xpedition, or similar.
  • Experience running board-level power integrity simulations with tools such as Ansys SiWave, ADS SIPro, or HyperLynx.
  • Experience designing for space radiation environments.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end design of power converters, power management, and control circuits, from concept and architecture definition through schematic and PCB design, testing, qualification, production transition, and production support.
  • Create detailed schematics for power electronics designs ranging from individual converters to multi-output power supply modules and power management circuitry.
  • Perform detailed PCB layout independently or in collaboration with a PCB Drafter.
  • Model and analyze analog and power electronics designs, including worst-case circuit, stress, small-signal and stability, power loss and efficiency optimization, and power integrity analyses.
  • Develop design verification test plans, requirement compliance matrices, system integration and qualification test plans, and production acceptance test plans.
  • Conduct bring-up and design verification testing of power electronics circuits and modules, often working with a technician or junior engineer.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team, lead system integration and qualification campaigns, and release analog and power electronics designs to production.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support their technical and professional development.
  • Research power electronics technology and industry trends to drive innovation and intellectual property generation.
  • Present engineering design review materials to customers and the executive team.
