Senior Power Electronics Engineer

CesiumAstro•Westminster, CO
•$133,000 - $161,000

About The Position

CesiumAstro is seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer for its Skylark product line, which develops active phased array antennas for terrestrial and airborne applications. The engineer will perform hands-on, end-to-end power electronics development for high-reliability space and airborne products, from concept and architecture through detailed design, analysis, board layout, testing, qualification, production transition, and production support. The role requires technical rigor, autonomy, and collaboration in a startup environment. The successful candidate will present engineering design review materials to customers and the executive team and mentor junior engineers. Applicants must meet U.S. Government space technology export-control eligibility requirements: be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, conditional resident, asylee, or refugee, or be eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • At least 5 years of industry or university research experience in board-level power electronics design, analysis, and test.
  • Experience owning power electronics or power subsystem design, including power architecture and requirements definition, trade studies, power converter and analog electronics design, component selection, and detailed design.
  • Experience performing or guiding complex PCB layout for analog and power electronics.
  • Experience with analysis and simulation tools such as SPICE, LTspice, SIMetrix/SIMPLIS, PLECS, Simulink, MATLAB, or MathCAD.
  • Strong laboratory testing and troubleshooting experience for prototyping, design verification testing, and qualification of analog and power electronics hardware.
  • Direct experience designing high-reliability electronics for automotive, space, or defense applications, including part derating, worst-case analysis, and thermal constraints.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience delivering subcircuit or board designs to production and deployment.
  • Proficiency with PCB design tools such as Altium, OrCAD/Allegro, PADS/Xpedition, or similar.
  • Experience running board-level power integrity simulation tools such as Ansys SiWave, ADS SIPro, or HyperLynx.
  • Experience designing for space radiation environments.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end design of power converters and power management and control circuits, from concept and architecture definition through schematic and PCB design, testing, qualification, production transition, and production support.
  • Create detailed schematics for low- to high-complexity power electronics, including single converters, multi-output power supply modules, and power management circuitry.
  • Perform detailed PCB layout in Altium Designer independently or with a PCB Drafter.
  • Model and analyze analog and power electronics designs, including worst-case circuit, stress, small-signal and stability, power loss and efficiency optimization, and power integrity analyses.
  • Develop design verification test plans, requirement compliance matrices, system integration and qualification test plans, and production acceptance test plans.
  • Bring up and perform design verification testing of power electronics circuits and modules, often alongside a technician or junior engineer.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team, lead system integration and qualification campaigns, and release analog and power electronics designs to production.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support their technical understanding and professional development.
  • Research power electronics technology and industry trends to drive innovation and intellectual property generation.
  • Present engineering design review materials to customers and the executive team.

Benefits

  • Company stock options.
  • Health, dental, and vision plans.
  • Health savings account (HSA) and flexible spending account (FSA).
  • Life and disability plans.
  • Retirement plans.
