Senior Power BI Developer
About The Position
The Senior BI Developer will transform raw data into actionable business insights for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). The position leads the design, development, and deployment of end-to-end business intelligence solutions, using expertise in data modeling, DAX, and Power Query. This is a temporary six-month position. The role includes developing and maintaining Power BI reports and dashboards; transforming and modeling data from multiple sources; building ETL/ELT processes; writing DAX and M-Query formulas; integrating Microsoft Platform Solutions; and automating workflows with Power Automate. The developer will validate data accuracy, establish reporting standards and KPIs, generate insights for business stakeholders, and support self-service analytics. The role also involves developing Python-based predictive analytics and machine-learning workflows. The candidate must have an active Secret security clearance and be a U.S. citizen. The stated projected compensation range is $76.92 to $86.54 per hour.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- At least 10 years of Federal Government experience as military, civilian, or contractor.
- Expert-level proficiency building end-to-end Power BI reports and interactive visualizations.
- Advanced proficiency writing complex DAX and M-Query formulas, measures, and calculated columns.
- Proven ability to structure and link data efficiently for optimal report performance.
- Mastery of advanced Excel formulas and functions for data analysis and validation.
- Expertise creating, managing, and extracting data from SharePoint environments and SharePoint Lists.
- Strong data analysis skills, including synthesizing raw data into trends, outliers, and actionable business intelligence.
- Meticulous attention to data accuracy and integrity, including consistency between dashboards and source systems.
- Extensive experience cleaning, shaping, and transforming data with Power Query.
- Experience working with and briefing senior-level DoD personnel; excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working in a time-sensitive environment with a high level of accountability.
- Active Secret security clearance.
- U.S. citizenship.
Nice To Haves
- Working knowledge of Power Automate for automating data pipeline refreshes and notification triggers.
- Experience with programming languages such as Python, particularly with Pandas and TensorFlow libraries, to assist with NLP.
- PL-300 or DA-100 certification.
- Experience in Federal Government acquisition, financial management, and/or audit readiness.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards throughout the lifecycle, from gathering business requirements to final visualization.
- Use Power Query to clean and transform complex structured and unstructured data into structured models while maintaining data quality, consistency, governance, and security.
- Develop and maintain data models and ETL/ELT processes that integrate multiple data sources efficiently and support accurate, fast-loading reports.
- Write and maintain complex DAX and M-Query formulas, calculated columns, and measures.
- Manage and automate data collection, transformation, validation, extraction, and integration, with a focus on Microsoft Platform Solutions.
- Use Power Automate to schedule data refreshes and trigger alerts or notifications.
- Validate data and ensure dashboard metrics align with source files; establish reporting standards, KPIs, and data visualization best practices.
- Analyze datasets to identify trends and outliers and deliver actionable insights to business stakeholders; promote self-service analytics adoption.
- Develop Python-based models for predictive analytics, forecasting, classification, and operational optimization, and build and deploy machine-learning workflows.
