About The Position

Alberta operates in a complex global environment where responsible energy and natural resource development must balance economic, environmental, and social priorities. Alberta Energy and Minerals plays a key role in stewarding these resources for the benefit of all Albertans, including Indigenous communities, and is seeking a Senior Policy Analyst to join the Community Relationships team within the Energy Policy Division. This role supports Alberta’s efforts to balance economic, social, and environmental outcomes by ensuring policies reflect stakeholder and community perspectives while advancing responsible development across the province. Reporting to the Manager, Community Relationships, the Senior Policy Analyst is a subject matter expert who leads complex policy and program initiatives with minimal supervision. This position plays a key role in shaping policy direction through research, analysis, and engagement with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, as well as cross-ministry partners. Requirements

  • University graduation in public policy, political science, economics, natural resource management, law, Indigenous studies/relations or a related field supplemented by four (4) years of related experience in policy analysis and/or development, stakeholder or community engagement.
  • Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis

  • Strong understanding of policy research, analysis, and development practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, evaluation, and implementation of complex policies and programs aligned with Alberta’s energy and resource management objectives.
  • Provide strategic analysis, research, and evidence-based advice to senior leadership on emerging issues and policy directions.
  • Design and coordinate engagement activities with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities to support inclusive policy development.
  • Manage multiple projects, including planning, analysis of options, and preparation of reports, briefing materials, and recommendations.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, influencing outcomes across ministries and sectors.
  • Synthesize research and stakeholder input into clear, actionable policy recommendations and briefing documents.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff and contribute to building team capability.
