About The Position

Leads API Downstream’s health and chemical management policy development and supports product stewardship advocacy efforts on key member issues via management of the Health & Product Stewardship Committee (HPS) and the Product Stewardship Policy Group (PSP). Works with assigned committees to ensure member company engagement on approaches to regulations, legislation, and policies while coordinating with other API Segments, API Communications, Legal, and Government Affairs departments. Develop and implement industry priorities and programs with the objective of supporting and advancing public policy to benefit API and its members. Supports strategy development and execution to effectuate positive outcomes with API staff, allied trades, coalitions, and other stakeholders. Advocate for legislation, regulation, and other government initiatives pertaining to chemical management, risk evaluation, risk management, and risk communication that are balanced, risk-based, and anchored in sound science. Acts as a spokesperson for API and the industry with national, state, and local policy makers as well as private sector companies, the media, think tanks, and non-governmental organizations. Provides API leadership with yearly budget needs based on member priorities. Oversees spending and project management of third-party contractors in area of responsibility.

Requirements

  • 7-10 years of experience in a similar role and subject matter expertise.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant area or other related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of the oil and natural gas industry is required.
  • Initiative and ability to work both independently and collegially with others in the department, across the organization, with member company representatives, and allies are essential.
  • Excellent communications (written, verbal and graphical), planning, organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
