About The Position

At Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, the Senior Platform Engineer for Databricks will own and advance the enterprise platform supporting data engineering, analytics, and AI. The role is responsible for making the platform reliable, secure, and cost-effective as adoption grows. The engineer will join a small, growing Platform Engineering team that also owns GitHub Enterprise and Azure API Management; Databricks will be the initial focus, with opportunities to back up another platform and help shape future work. The position allows remote flexibility and requires one day per week in the Omaha office. Omaha is the preferred location and receives first consideration. Candidates living in approved states—Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Texas—may need to travel to headquarters based on business needs. The ideal candidate lives within driving distance of the Omaha office. The role leads technical direction, platform health, reliability, and lifecycle management; establishes security and governance guardrails; builds Infrastructure-as-Code and automation; enables governed adoption of Databricks AI capabilities; leads upgrades, migrations, integrations, and security remediation; and owns monitoring, incident response, root-cause analysis, and cost optimization. The engineer partners with security, architecture, compliance, and data teams, mentors engineers, and serves as backup for another Platform Engineering platform. A bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field and seven years of related experience are required, though an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Candidates need production experience administering, securing, and troubleshooting an enterprise cloud data platform, experience delivering reusable platform capabilities, Infrastructure-as-Code and automation skills, and advanced cloud identity, networking, storage, security, and monitoring knowledge. Databricks experience is preferred, as are experience in regulated environments, relevant certifications, and experience with migrations, governance, disaster recovery, GitHub Enterprise, or Azure API Management. The employer is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa. The role may require on-call work based on business needs and assignment. Candidates must meet attendance and timeliness requirements, work effectively in a team, and build and maintain positive relationships with staff, departments, and customers. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions; other duties may be assigned.
