About The Position

Target is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its Developer Platform team within Developer Productivity & Platform Engineering. The role builds and supports a project-generation platform used by thousands of engineers. The system scaffolds fully configured codebases with approved patterns, security standards, and platform integrations, helping development teams move faster and focus on product features.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong backend fundamentals and proficiency in JVM languages such as Kotlin or Java.
• Experience designing and shipping production REST APIs.
• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and developer platform tooling.
• Experience with PostgreSQL or another relational database.
• Comfort navigating and contributing to distributed, multi-service codebases.
• Strong critical thinking skills, including the ability to navigate ambiguity and identify information needed to move work forward.

Nice To Haves

• React or TypeScript frontend experience.
• Python experience.
• Experience with AI tooling, LLMs, or the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
• Familiarity with template engines such as Jinja2 or Cookiecutter.
• Background in developer experience, internal tooling, or platform engineering.

Responsibilities

• Build and support the developer project-generation platform.
• Design abstractions that make new infrastructure integrations seamless.
• Build AI-native agent interfaces that allow engineers to generate projects from IDEs and coding assistant tools.
• Contribute to technical decisions and the roadmap, including expansion into new infrastructure domains, AI-assisted developer workflows, and deeper integrations across the engineering organization.
