Senior Platform Engineer, Databases
About The Position
Clio is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer, Databases to join their Systems Engineering, Production team. This role requires deep expertise in MySQL/Postgres and a passion for building scalable database systems. The engineer will focus on optimizing, maintaining, and evolving the MySQL infrastructure to support high-performance, mission-critical applications. This position offers exposure to diverse technologies and the opportunity to make a significant impact. The role is available across Canada, with an expectation for local candidates in Burnaby, Calgary, or Toronto to be in the office a minimum of two days per week for Anchor Days.
Requirements
- Backend development experience
- MySQL and/or PostgreSQL expertise
- Experience investigating and solving performance problems
- The ability to optimize query performance
- A portfolio of successful projects (as well as a collection of lessons learned from failed projects)
- Demonstrate a keen interest in improving your craft by using AI
Nice To Haves
- Experience using migrations tools, pt-online-schema-change or gh-ost
- Experience managing hosts with Puppet
- Experience working with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience developing with Ruby or GoLang
- Experience managing AWS resources with CloudFormation, Terraform and Ansible
- Experience scripting with BASH
- Experience using ProxySQL and the Percona toolkit
Responsibilities
- Preparing Clio’s database infrastructure for the future in terms of scale and reliability.
- Collaboratively defining the roadmap to support business goals and satisfy application requirements.
- Investigating and solving performance problems with MySQL databases and other data stores.
- Guiding development teams on how to improve and optimize their use of databases.
- Scoping, defining, and collaborating with developers to implement automation and processes that power the reliability of Clio’s datastores.
- Working with the SRE team and helping develop their MySQL knowledge.
