About The Position

Cambridge Systematics, Inc. (CS) is seeking a Senior Planner to join our team in Texas. The Senior Planner will serve as a subject matter expert in various practice areas, including safety, corridor planning, long-range planning, asset, performance, and risk management, and resilience and sustainability. This role involves collaborating with technical leaders and project managers, influencing clients' policy, process, and strategy, and informing research. The Senior Planner will develop relationships with public agency clients across Texas, identify future policy and programming opportunities, and lead teaming negotiations with other consulting firms. Additionally, they will train, manage, and mentor junior staff and motivate multidisciplinary teams and subconsultants to ensure timely and within-budget project delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Civil Engineering, Public Policy, Transportation Economics or a related area
  • 15+ years of industry-related experience
  • 8+ years of experience managing projects and leading proposals
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong and effective communication, presentation, and technical writing skills
  • A strong professional network in the transportation industry

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Planning, Civil Engineering, Public Policy, Transportation Economics or a related area
  • Demonstrated project experience—current or prior—with the Texas Department of Transportation and Metropolitan Planning Organizations, including direct engagement in policy, planning, programming, or statewide transportation initiatives
  • Located in (or willing to relocate to) Texas
  • 5+ years of experience in public sector consulting and professional services

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in practice areas including safety; corridor planning; long-range planning; asset, performance, and risk management; and resilience and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with other technical leaders and project managers across business units.
  • Serve as a company-wide resource and lead projects or tasks in practice areas.
  • Inform research and influence clients’ policy, process, and strategy, including investment decisions.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with current and prospective public agency clients across Texas, including the Texas Department of Transportation; Metropolitan Planning Organizations, municipalities, and other public entities such as tolling agencies or port authorities.
  • Identify future policy and programming opportunities through client relationships.
  • Build connections with peer firms and lead teaming negotiations with other consulting firms as part of proactive and reactive marketing efforts.
  • Train, manage, and mentor junior staff.
  • Motivate multidisciplinary teams and subconsultants to deliver work products on-time and within budget.
