About The Position

The Senior Piping Engineer provides technical direction to engineers and designers when serving as a lead engineer, with responsibility for delivering mechanical services and deliverables on time, within budget, and to quality expectations. The role may include serving as Engineer of Record for complex assignments and performing advanced engineering work with minimal supervision in the Beaumont area office. The position develops and checks piping engineering work, including stress analyses, specifications, calculations, estimates, layouts, material take-offs, and design documentation. It coordinates with drafting and other disciplines, reviews vendor and construction submittals, supports procurement and construction, and provides technical guidance to less experienced personnel. The Senior Piping Engineer also helps lead project execution within scope, schedule, and budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Professional Engineering registration.
  • 15 or more years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Knowledge of design standards and codes, piping materials, and piping material and procurement specifications.
  • Knowledge of good design practices for sizing piping systems, including compressible-fluid systems.
  • Experience with piping flexibility and stress analysis, complex process and utility piping systems, and piping supports and restraints.
  • Ability to specify criteria for and select piping specialty items, manual valves, safety valves and devices, steam traps, and liquid drainers.
  • Ability to estimate piping construction quantities from conceptual documents and determine construction material quantities.
  • Knowledge of other disciplines' deliverables, schedule constraints, and information requirements for producing mechanical deliverables.
  • Ability to estimate task completion accurately and develop construction cost estimates, engineering schedules, and man-hour budgets.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
  • Ability to lead a team and deliver on commitments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong presentation and virtual team skills.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Apply department design and engineering standards and become familiar with project scope, specifications, and design criteria.
  • Perform engineering activities such as stress analysis, construction and procurement specifications, calculations, and piping estimates.
  • Develop conceptual layouts, cost studies, preliminary designs, material take-offs, detailed calculations, and sketches.
  • Prepare calculations and sketches clearly for checking, drawing development, and delivery when required.
  • Assist drafting personnel with layout and detailing problems and provide the sketches and details needed to complete engineering drawings.
  • Coordinate with other discipline design leaders to support timely information flow and project completion.
  • Review and check vendor drawings and drawings from other disciplines for mechanical input.
  • Develop designs that use construction materials efficiently, are easy to construct, and meet client expectations.
  • Check other engineers' calculations for accuracy and conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria, and good engineering practice.
  • Advise the senior engineer of identified design or scope changes and communicate scope and design changes promptly.
  • Help assemble scopes, drawings, and specifications into packages for procurement inquiries covering equipment, materials, or subcontract pricing.
  • Develop construction specifications and review fabrication drawings and construction submittals for conformance with engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Perform fieldwork to gather data, check tie-ins, and provide construction support.
  • Apply advanced engineering techniques and analysis to complex designs and provide technical guidance to less experienced drafting and engineering personnel.
  • Coordinate work activities with staff members and discipline leads, and identify and develop work-sharing packages for interoffice support.
  • Lead communication and execution of work within scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Develop construction cost estimates, detailed engineering schedules, man-hour budgets, and construction material quantities for small projects or areas of larger projects.
