About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Piping Engineer – Remote. This remote position is based out of our Oak Ridge, TN office. Your role This role requires a senior experienced mechanical or process engineering professional responsible for design, layout, installation, and maintenance of piping systems and associated supports. This role will support the overall design and analysis of mechanical components, systems and piping designs for nuclear and commercial projects. Creates detailed engineering drawings, P&IDs, and 3D models for piping routes, equipment, placement, and plant setup. Performs a variety of engineering calculations using traditional and advanced engineering methods and applicable design codes and regulatory requirements. Will specify piping materials, fittings, valves, and support systems and perform stress analysis using software to ensure structural integrity. (e.g., PipeStress, AutoPipe, MathCAD, GT STRUDL, ANSYS). Specializes in the preparation of technical specifications, requisitions, and vendor recommendations for piping components. Review of technical documents and drawings, such as General Arrangement, ISO, pipe supports, flow diagrams and P&ID), calculations, design/analysis reports, design requirements, design manuals, bill of materials, design specifications, technical specifications, data sheets, etc. Specializes in routine development, management and implementation of engineering analysis, activities and programs to identify and resolve routine equipment and system problems. Works in multi-discipline teams on project-based work and ensures integration of design across multiple disciplines having a significant impact on project. Will conduct mentoring, guidance, and quality reviews of the work of junior colleagues when needed. Site experience in construction, or commissioning of plant mechanical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries would be an asset. Working knowledge of ASME Section III and ANSI B31.1 codes and any other applicable standards or regulatory guides related to permanent plant components, pressure boundary equipment, and/or reactor systems is preferred. Design engineering experience in nuclear class 1, 2, 3 and 6 piping systems, valves, pumps and for Nuclear Power Plants is preferable. Must be able to apply advanced technical principles in a logical and practical manner to resolve engineering issues or technical problems. Works to assigned schedules ensuring the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of work and initiates corrective measures to overcome delays. Operates with a high degree of independence with minimal guidance. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required in mechanical engineering or related technical or engineering field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Mastered the in-depth knowledge and experience required in piping and systems design.
  • Knowledge of industry codes and regulations.
  • Able to complete complex technical work with limited supervision.
  • Higher-level knowledge and application of skills of fundamental principles and concepts related to piping and mechanical design.
  • Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks.
  • Eligible to work under 10 CFR Part 810.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen in order to be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in nuclear industry preferred.
  • PE preferred.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
