About The Position

Chewy is looking for a Sr. Pet Wrangler Specialist to join our Chewy Studios Team based in Plantation, FL. The ideal candidate brings professional experience working with a variety of animal species and a strong foundation in animal behavior and training. The Sr. Pet Wrangler Specialist serves as a key member of the Studio Team, leading the handling, performance, and safety of pet talent across photo, video, and event productions. This role operates in fast-paced, dynamic environments and partners closely with Production, Creative, and Pet Talent teams to assess feasibility, guide expectations, and deliver high-quality outcomes. A core focus of this role is ensuring pets are prepared, confident, and supported through positive reinforcement training while maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare. The Sr. Pet Wrangler Specialist acts as the primary advocate for pet talent on set, communicating real-time updates, identifying risks, and making informed decisions to support both pet wellbeing and production success.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience working with animals in a training, handling, or production environment
  • Experience working with dogs and cats is required
  • Strong understanding of animal behavior and positive reinforcement training techniques
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in fast-paced, dynamic environments
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams
  • Commitment to animal welfare and safety standards
  • No animal allergies that would impact your ability to work with the animals

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with additional species such as horses, birds, reptiles, and small mammals is a plus
  • Experience supporting animals in production environments (photo, video, or live events)
  • Knowledge of behavior analysis or advanced training techniques

Responsibilities

  • Own on-set execution of pet talent, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality performance across productions
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in animal behavior, applying species- and breed-specific knowledge to guide pet performance and inform creative feasibility
  • Assess pet readiness and performance in real time, adapting approach based on behavior, environment, and production needs
  • Act as the primary advocate for pet talent, identifying stress signals and making decisions to protect animal welfare, including pausing or adjusting production when needed
  • Partner cross-functionally with Production, Creative, and Studio teams to align on expectations and propose solutions when challenges arise
  • Lead training and preparation efforts, utilizing positive reinforcement techniques to build behaviors required for production
  • Develop and execute training plans to shape new or complex behaviors
  • Support casting strategy by evaluating pet suitability, conducting studio tests, and maintaining detailed behavioral profiles
  • Contribute to sourcing efforts, building relationships with pet parents and identifying new talent opportunities
  • Communicate proactively with internal teams to set pets up for success and provide alternative approaches when needed
  • Ensure safety standards are upheld across all interactions between pets, people, and the studio environment
  • Provide guidance and support to team members, including freelance and full-time staff, to maintain consistency in handling practices
  • Maintain pet holding areas and ensure environments are clean, safe, and organized
  • Support additional Pet Talent Team responsibilities as needed
