Senior Payroll Specialist

LiveKit
•$132,000 - $178,000

About The Position

LiveKit is hiring a Senior Payroll Specialist to build and operate payroll as the function moves into Finance. The role owns end-to-end US and international payroll, payroll tax filings, compliance, payroll processes and controls, and relationships with PEO and EOR providers. It also supports general-ledger reconciliation, month-end close, equity administration, and payroll-related questions from employees and auditors. The position calls for a detail-oriented, independent subject-matter expert who can identify tax, legal, and compliance risks while supporting a fast-growing, distributed team.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience running both US and international payroll, including Canada and/or the EU.
  • Experience managing payroll tax filings directly, rather than handing them off to a provider.
  • Experience with multi-state US payroll for a remote, distributed team.
  • Strong experience working within PEO and/or EOR structures.
  • Familiarity with startup-focused platforms such as Rippling, Deel, Remote, or similar.
  • Ability to work independently as a subject-matter expert, manage many moving pieces, and flag tax, legal, and compliance risks proactively.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, including reconciling payroll figures to the penny.

Nice To Haves

  • CPP, FPC, or similar payroll certification.
  • Experience bringing payroll in-house, switching providers, or migrating an HRIS.
  • Experience with equity administration in Carta.
  • Experience at a fast-growing company with a distributed, international team.
  • Having personally identified a payroll error before others did.

Responsibilities

  • Run US and international payroll end to end, from collecting inputs through final reconciliation.
  • Own domestic and international payroll tax filings and ensure compliance and timely submission.
  • Manage PEO and EOR relationships and understand the boundaries of provider responsibilities.
  • Reconcile payroll to the general ledger each cycle and support month-end close.
  • Build and maintain the payroll calendar, processes, and documentation as payroll moves into Finance.
  • Partner with People/Talent and Accounting on new hires, employee changes, terminations, and month-end reconciliation.
  • Support equity administration in Carta and equity reporting for the board.
  • Serve as the internal point of contact for payroll questions and respond to external auditor requests.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity package
  • Health, dental, and vision benefits
  • Flexible vacation policy
