About The Position

Under general supervision of the Parks Maintenance Foreman, supervises assigned staff and participates in the maintenance of the trails system. Determines ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Assists in maintaining City parks, facilities, equipment, and grounds; cleans and repairs park facilities; conducts routine landscaping and facilities maintenance tasks. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, mowing, edging grass, trimming trees and shrubs, maintaining green spaces and trails, preparing sports fields, maintaining facilities by repairing/replacing doors, gates, fences, minor repairs, and painting, cleaning restrooms, pavilions, and other structures, assembling, constructing and repairing playground structures, completing and working on light/small construction projects, performing daily rounds of facilities and park land and fields to inspect areas for damage/vandalism, performing repair and maintenance functions, including plumbing, lights, etc., performing irrigation checks and repairs, assigning work and/or assisting Parks Maintenance Workers with completion of tasks, operating heavy machinery and light equipment to properly complete assigned tasks, supporting special events by setting up, tearing down, and other miscellaneous duties, completing and maintaining records as required by department policy, performing all job duties according to all approved safety rules and procedures, and performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Three (3) years of full-time experience in landscaping, or park maintenance or related experience.
Any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge of equipment used in grounds keeping or other related work.
Knowledge of parks and recreational facility maintenance and repair.
Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
Knowledge of light/heavy machinery operation.
Knowledge of construction, electrical, irrigation, concrete and/or plumbing practices and procedures.
Knowledge of herbicide and pesticide use and application.
Knowledge of City practices and procedures.
Skill in comprehending and following oral and written instructions.
Skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Ability to lift, move and/or carry equipment or materials applicable to the assigned work.
Ability to operate light and heavy equipment.
Ability to read memos, instructions, warning labels, road signs, etc.
Ability to prepare work orders and reports for supervisor.
Ability to measure and mix cleaning agents/pesticides.
Valid Class A Texas Commercial driver’s license

Responsibilities
