About The Position

BorgWarner is currently seeking a “dynamic, results-driven” individual to join as a Senior Paralegal at our World Headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The Senior Paralegal works with attorneys in the department as well as external attorneys, and for litigation matters, acts as a liaison between the attorney and the case files throughout all stages of litigation including pre-trial investigation and preparation, mediation, arbitration and trial; manages own caseload and provides attorneys all necessary assistance in order to provide economical and efficient services for clients. The ideal candidate will have strong time management skills, ability to work under pressure on time-sensitive projects, willingness to work overtime and travel occasionally, be self-motivated and ability to work independently, the ability to work effectively on a team and with all levels of personnel, superior knowledge of legal terminology, documents, and the legal process; excellent research and analytical skills; and high-level attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and/or paralegal certificate
  • Broad experience with corporate, commercial litigation, and intellectual property
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently both verbally and in writing
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize work to meet all deadlines and client-deliverables expectations
  • Ability to extract, manipulate, summarize and report large quantities of data
  • Strong skills with MS Office (Outlook, Word, SharePoint, Excel, CoPilot), CT Advantage and hQue, Exterro, and Legal Tracker

Responsibilities

  • Manage corporate minute books and entity database
  • Manage annual report filings
  • Draft corporate resolutions
  • Support new vendor and matter entries in billing system
  • Obtain certified corporate documents and apostilles
  • Manage service of process including tender of asbestos claims
  • Support class action assessments and filings
  • Manage litigation hold process
  • Trial/Arbitration/Mediation preparation
  • Organize and manage case files and litigation reports including registered agent claims reports and reports from the billing system
  • File documents with government agencies or courts (when appropriate)
  • Act as a liaison between outside counsel and internal business partners
  • Coordinate interviews, meetings, trial or hearing logistics
  • Support internal and external investigations and complex cases, including document productions and e-discovery
  • Analyze technical information received and summarize for reports and discovery responses.
  • Draft and prepare technical/legal documents and letters
  • Prepare responses to subpoenas and discovery requests (organizing/indexing data – hard copy materials and electronic).
  • Provide administrative support to lawyers and other support staff
  • Open and close files
  • Order records
  • Locate and develop pre-litigation case with relevant information
  • Draft correspondence and answer phone calls
  • Monitor deadlines
  • Communicate effectively and productively with individuals in all roles, internal and external
  • Track invoices of the legal department
  • Conduct due diligence relating to M&A transactions and litigation
