About The Position

The Senior Paralegal Specialist performs law-related tasks under the direction of the Company's attorneys. Provides support to the legal department regarding researching legal matters, drafting, editing, and filing legal documents, assisting with audits and investigations, preparing reports, coordinating with potential witnesses, working directly with outside counsel and documenting processes. Analyzes solutions using standard procedures. Works under a lower level of guidance and direction. Key responsibilities include: Provide support to the data privacy and cyber security practice area of the Legal Department requiring a high degree of analytical, written and oral communication and organizational skills. Provide support to other practice areas of the legal department. Produce clear and concise written materials that can be submitted to internal and external contacts with minimal revision. Work directly with business clients and develop an understanding of business unit needs. Serve as point of contact between attorneys, outside counsel and internal business personnel. Research and gather information for the preparation of function-related documents. Collect, review and draft legal documents of a complex nature, correspondence and other materials requiring a strong level of legal terminology and document formatting knowledge. Participate in projects in the Ameren Legal Department, including taking the lead on complex matters. Assist attorney in the coordination of Ameren co-workers and in the drafting and coordination of, documents (including, but not limited to, audit responses, responses to discovery, memos, correspondence, pleadings, and responses to outside counsel). Manage proper record retention and destruction. Advice on privacy compliance and data protection issues, in collaboration with attorneys and business clients. Develop and support legal documentation related to AI technologies, including drafting and reviewing AI-related analysis and policies. Conduct research on evolving privacy and artificial intelligence laws and provide updates to the Legal Department regarding emerging risks and regulatory changes. Assist in preparing privacy impact assessments and AI risk evaluations for internal projects and external collaborations. Serve as a liaison between legal, IT, and business units to ensure AI projects align with privacy best practices and legal requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in paralegal studies, computer science, cyber security or relevant degree is required with 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • In lieu of a BS/BA an associate degree in Paralegal Studies or the completion of a higher education Paralegal Certificate program or other relevant program with 12+ years of experience may be considered.
  • Experience in data privacy and/or cyber security practice areas is required.
  • Proficiency with, LEXIS, Westlaw, Internet, Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office applications required.
  • Keep current on industry issues and communicate within their functional Legal Team on changes in law or emerging issues.
  • Demonstrate ability to complete complex legal projects from beginning to end.
  • Build rapport and collaborate effectively across the organization and foster an environment of open and transparent communication.
  • Demonstrate honest, respectful and trustworthy behaviors when engaging with internal and external contacts.

  • Experience with e-Discovery platforms is preferred.
  • Experience with e-Discovery platforms and proficiency with e-Discovery rules, processes, and procedures is preferred.
  • Ability to develop and coach coworkers with less experience.
