About The Position

The Office of the Attorney General/Department of Law is seeking two detail-oriented Senior Paralegals to join its dynamic team in the Revenue & Regulatory Law Section. These roles offer the opportunity to work on meaningful, high-impact matters that directly protect and serve Coloradans. One position supports the Specialized Business Group, providing legal services to regulated industries such as sports betting, the auto industry, and the Colorado Lottery. The other position supports the Professional Boards and Programs Unit in overseeing licensed professions and upholding public health and safety standards. The Revenue & Regulatory Law (R&R) Section provides comprehensive legal services across a broad spectrum of regulatory and revenue-related matters, upholding Colorado’s regulatory framework, financial integrity, and community safety through litigation, general counsel, and other specialized legal services. R&R’s 10 units provide legal services to over 70 state agencies, divisions, boards, commissions, enterprises, ombudsmen, and statutorily created task forces.

Requirements

  • Paralegal certificate obtained through either an American Bar Association (ABA) approved paralegal studies program or an accredited institution and One (1) year of paralegal experience.
  • Two (2) years of work experience in a paralegal capacity which included conducting legal research, preparing drafts of legal documents and gathering and compiling data from legal references and resources will substitute for the required certificate.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Effective oral and written communication with internal and external customers.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills.
  • Ability to research, analyze, and compile data.
  • Time-management skills, including the ability to multi-task and effectively manage competing priorities in order to meet tight deadlines.
  • Applicants must pass a thorough background investigation prior to appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing paralegal support in litigation.
  • Experience reviewing legal documents for essential terms, such as deadlines to respond to a filing.
  • Experience using Adobe Acrobat to create exhibits for filing with court or hearing body.
  • Experience working with court personnel or other professionals in a collaborative fashion.
  • Experience using electronic filing systems, such as the Colorado state court e-filing system or in similar forum or agency.
  • Specific experience using Microsoft Word to create court filings with tables and authorities.
  • Experience with ProLaw or a similar case management system.
  • Experience organizing and managing multiple projects simultaneously including managing multiple hard deadlines.
  • For the Professional Boards and Programs position, Federal Litigation experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing, organizing, and drafting legal pleadings and settlement documents.
  • Reviewing, organizing, and summarizing financial, criminal, and other types of records.
  • Investigating and confirming factual information.
  • Organizing documents, witnesses, and court reporters for depositions and hearings.
  • Performing necessary legal assistance services to unit attorneys.
  • Functioning as a liaison between attorneys, client agencies, opposing counsel, the public, expert witnesses, other sections of the Department of Law, the Office of Administrative Courts, and state or federal trial and appellate courts.
  • Contributing to office-wide projects as needed and supporting other legal assistants in other units within the Section depending on workloads.
  • Providing advanced paralegal support for administrative hearings, trial and appellate litigation, and regulatory matters involving state agencies and regulated industries.
  • Preparing and filing legal pleadings and hearing documents.
  • Conducting legal and factual research.
  • Managing case files, discovery, exhibits, subpoenas, and hearing logistics.
  • Tracking deadlines and maintaining case management databases.
  • Coordinating with attorneys, clients, witnesses, courts, and opposing counsel.
  • Reviewing and organizing large volumes of documents for relevance, privilege, and confidentiality.
  • Assisting with trial and hearing preparation.
  • Supporting litigation involving agencies such as the DMV, Division of Gaming, Lottery, Racing, and professional licensing programs.
  • Supporting records management, appeals processing, discovery coordination, and ongoing development of systems to improve case organization, workflow, and compliance with court and administrative procedures.
