This role manages the development and engineering of packages to ensure both aesthetic and objectives are met. It involves managing the evaluation and selection of packaging materials, packaging equipment, and processes that meet functional cost and consumer requirements. The position also manages large-scale optimization/cost reduction projects while working with cross-functional teams. The Senior Packaging Engineer will create and validate packaging specifications and possess spec approval responsibility for technicians and engineers in headquarters and supplier production facilities. They will execute appropriate packaging testing as required (ship testing, compatibility, resistance, etc.) and guide matrix teams as subject matter experts for packaging technologies and materials. Responsibilities include coordinating graphics for corrugate and film, and creating and approving source documents such as cost investigation, package profile, preliminary specifications, tooling/part qualification, and final package components specification. The role acts as an internal consultant providing technical guidance on the most complex projects and problems by applying creativity, innovation, tools, methods, and techniques integrated with technical insights, knowledge, and experience to form conclusions and resolutions. The Senior Packaging Engineer recognizes challenges in the technical platform and engages a variety of resources (internal and external) to consistently overcome the most challenging technical problems. In locations where applicable, the role is responsible for complying with all plant safety rules and GMP practices and programs to ensure safe food packaging products and to report food safety problems to those with authority to take action. The size, scope, and complexity of the assigned portfolio are factors in the level of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Proficient in SAP.
  • Familiar in standard packaging software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills and the ability to communicate and influence at all levels within the organization.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple accountabilities and multiple internal customers.
  • Strong analytical ski and organizational skills and great attention to detail.
  • Solid project management capabilities with the ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously from origin through execution.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule during key business deadlines.
  • Must be team oriented with the ability to work on high collaboration and performance teams.
  • BS degree in Packaging Engineering preferred, or equivalent in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 8+ years of related professional Engineering experience in the CPG/Foodservice industry.
  • Proven background as a technical expert.
  • Demonstrated experience and application of complex concepts, practices and procedures within particular engineering field.
