About The Position

Valar Atomics is hiring a Senior OT Engineer within its Engineering organization. The Instrumentation & Controls team designs systems that monitor, automate, and protect the company’s facilities and reactor technologies. This role takes defined implementation or testing objectives through planning, execution, troubleshooting, and verified delivery. The engineer owns assigned system results, makes sound decisions within established standards, and resolves interface issues with other engineers. OT Engineering delivers power and rack infrastructure, compute, networks, identity, physical and cybersecurity, operational data, and industrial software platforms such as FactoryTalk. FactoryTalk work includes backend deployment, configuration, integration, and recovery. PLC programming and controls-code development are outside the role. The position requires travel to the Orangeville, Utah facility approximately 15% of the time. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident. The company states that it is an equal opportunity employer and will provide reasonable accommodation as required by law.

Requirements

  • Independently deliver an implementation or rigorous hands-on test work package from a defined objective to verified completion.
  • Plan methods, interfaces, dependencies, resources, testing, and turnover within established standards.
  • Diagnose causes using measurements or recorded evidence and verify that corrective actions resolve the problem.
  • Maintain controlled configurations and usable records; coordinate interfaces and escalate decisions beyond authority.
  • Demonstrate at least one specialty listed in the posting; expertise across every specialty is not required.
  • Be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
  • Be highly organized, with disciplined task tracking, accurate documentation, clear priorities, and reliable follow-through.
  • Progress independently from a defined objective to a working, verified result, with timely escalation of design or scope decisions.
  • Have strong depth in one or more disciplines and enough interface awareness to work effectively with other specialists.
  • Troubleshoot persistently using evidence and verify results rather than stopping at an apparent fix.

Nice To Haves

  • Specialty in power distribution and backup, including determining loads and ratings; configuring and troubleshooting PDU, ATS, or UPS systems; and verifying transfer, backup power, and recovery.
  • Specialty in racks and cabling, including planning installations, selecting compatible components, diagnosing physical faults, and verifying completed work.
  • Specialty in compute, storage, and virtualization, including deployment and operation, diagnosing failures, and proving restoration and availability.
  • Specialty in industrial software backends, including deploying, integrating, troubleshooting, and recovering FactoryTalk or equivalent industrial backends and supporting services.
  • Specialty in networking, including configuring and troubleshooting switching, routing, segmentation, and firewalls, and verifying connectivity, redundancy, and restoration.
  • Specialty in technical documentation, supported by exceptional hands-on testing: independently developing methods, preparing setups, executing tests, diagnosing failures, and verifying corrective results.
  • Specialty in Windows domain administration, including administering Active Directory and Group Policy; troubleshooting DNS and time dependencies; and verifying changes and recovery.
  • Specialty in access control, including implementing and troubleshooting roles, privileged access, and service-account permissions; reviewing access; and verifying least privilege.
  • Specialty in central logging and authentication, including integrating services and diagnosing dependencies; verifying collection, access, retention, and recovery.
  • Specialty in log and packet analysis, including correlating evidence across systems, establishing causes, and verifying corrective actions.
  • Specialty in operational data systems, including deploying and operating historians, databases, or interfaces; diagnosing quality failures; and verifying retention, buffering, access, and recovery.

Responsibilities

  • Turn defined objectives into practical implementation or test plans covering prerequisites, equipment or configuration needs, dependencies, tests, and recovery steps.
  • Independently implement and operate systems, or prepare, execute, and diagnose system tests within the assigned scope.
  • Diagnose difficult faults using measurements, logs, test results, and system behavior, and verify that corrective action resolves the problem.
  • Plan and execute commissioning, failure, and recovery tests with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Resolve integration issues with other engineers and identify when requirements or designs need revision.
  • Complete delivery with accurate configurations, executable procedures, test evidence, and usable handoff records.
  • Travel to the Orangeville, Utah facility approximately 15% of the time.
